Popular televangelist and leader of the Lighthouse Chapel International Bishop Dag Heward-Mills has apologized to the Ashanti Monarch Otumfuo Osei Tutu over an old sermon that appears to have provoked some Ashantis.
The said sermon, which has found its way onto social media, is said to be questioning the impact of the influential king on his subjects and community.
Some indigenes of the Ashanti region have raised concerns over the message with some retorting that Ghanaians do not pay taxes to the king hence he owes nobody a responsibility of development.
In an apology, the Preacher said: “I am deeply saddened that a message I shared at a conference, nearly 20 years ago, has been taken out of its context and circulated by persons who have previously declared that they will maliciously cause our churches in Kumasi to be closed down.
“I wish to apologize to His Majesty Otumfuo Nana Osei Tutu II for any disrespect, insult or harm caused him or his royal court. Please accept my profound apologies for the statements I made”.
Bishop Heward-Mills has been in the news lately following reports of some misunderstanding between him and some of his pastors which has ended up in court. The pastors accuse the church of not paying their social security.

A bishop who has an issue with his pastors to the extent that they have to appear before a court of mortal Judges for settlement is a cause of rethinking. If indeed such a self-acclaimed man of God is worthy of any recognition at all. Please, fellow Ghanaians, don't be deceived by such rogues dressed in fake robes of the man of God. Our chiefs and Kings are mortal beings and do not claim to be Godly or perfect. But you claim to be Godly, yet, you deceive your pastors and followers.
We Praise God for life of Bishop Dag. Great man of God . You're a gift to the world
You live in Accra and but can't insult Ga Mantse but rather insult a chief in Kumasi and later talk about loyalty and disloyalty..Well Bishop is lying. In his ***barred word***,he mentioned the King holding multiple anniversaries of his enstoolment. 20years ago, the king hadn’t celebrated any of his anniversaries. 20 years ago, Otumfuo had been enstooled for only 1 year. This pastor is lying.Bishop dag heward mills is a big liar...even when apologizing koraa hes still lying.... Eeiiiiii....Well Asantehene has not forced u to apologize buh u felt u want to apologize and u av lied on top too. Does otumfuor take tithe and collection? You dupe you church pastors and not paying their SNITT pension and you have a lot to answer in court, also cursing members and members who rise and question your fake life.. You live in Accra where Ga Matse lives see the way Accra looks instead of talking about Accra you talking about kumasi..hypocrite fake man..lighthouse chapel is one of the churches that manipulate members and scare them with bible verse to the extent of cursing them. You write book and force all your pastors around the world to read instead of them preaching with the bible. See your house and the car you drive and using church members to build hospitals and school and ask same member to pay to use it. Joker church and members
Whether 20 years ago or not, what you said it the truth and it is still the truth! What has our chiefs and kings done for their subjects? I hate it when people say we don't pay taxes to the chief. If you care to know, they get royalties from mining companies. What do they use the money for?
It is high time, the state took a turn to look into the operations of the so-called charismatic churches. The self-ordained pastors and their bishops are cunning devils whose deeds should be taken under the loupe. This is how they operate: they make the vulnerable dependent and manipulative. I would suggest we look into the Rwanda experience and ban many of the fake churches in Ghana. You are best advised never to mention our Great King in any way in your robbery sermons.
