For fear of their lives, the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association says its members in Bawku in the Upper East region might abandon their post.
According to the nurses, the current security situation in Bawku is not conducive for working.
This follows the latest insecurity in Bawku since last Monday which has claimed at least the lives of seven persons.
President of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association, Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo speaking on an Accra-based radio station, appealed for ceasefire.
She appealed to all parties involved to lay down their arms to ensure healthcare delivery in the area is not compromised.
“All that is happening in Bawku is a great source of worry to us. It is something that we do not have control over. So all that we are asking is for the two factions to lay down their arms to ensure that, there is peace in Bawku. From the reports we are getting from our people, they are not able to go to work because their safety cannot be guaranteed,” she lamented.

These nurses paaaa, what are you waiting for? Leave, leave now. If you stay there and die a needless death that will be same as committing suicide. If you make sacrifices to go and offer professional services to people who only know how to kill, the only option left is to leave that place. I don't know who else will talk to the people of Bawku to listen. The president, clergy, imams, military, police, prominent Chiefs have all added their voices but to no avail. when Noah son refused to join his father in the ark, God told Noah to forget about that particular son of his and close the door, if he had insisted on his son coming in before he closes the door the floods would have drown him together with the other occupants. Government should forget about Bawku and move on, when their senses come back they will join the rest of us who love peace . There is no traditional area in Ghana that is 100% conflict free, the people have learned to live with each other despite their differences. They can continue with their Kusasi-Mamprusi games.
Government is pampering the people of Bawku, you don't need to plead for the people to ceasefire. Just apply as a group for transfer outside Bawku. Reasons for seeking for transfer ( insecurity) , if teachers, bankers, civil servants, public servants all seek transfer and government grants same, bet me the people will learn sense. Just try it for six months, the telecommunication companies should equally block all mobile services to Bawku. At times you have to adopt a high handed approach to bring people to their senses. Bawku to too small to hold Ghana to ransom.
