The Ghana Education Service (GES) has dismissed eight female students of the Chiana Senior High School in the Kassena-Nankana West District of the Upper East Region for making derogatory statements against President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
The second-year students, the GES statement said, used vulgar and unprintable words on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in a viral video late last year.
The dismissal of the students follows an investigation into the case.
Before the dismissal, the students had been on suspension.
The GES, in the dismissal letter, addressed to parents of the students, described their conduct as very undesirable, and contrary to the acceptable standards of conduct generally required of any student in Ghana’s educational system.
The students who had been on suspension over the video, have now had letters handed over to their guardians dismissing them for their misconduct.
Explaining the reason for their sack, the GES explained that they have been dismissed for conduct that is “very undesirable, and contrary to the acceptable standards of the conduct generally required of any student in the educational system of Ghana.”
The dismissal letter dated November 29, 2022, and signed by the Director General of the GES, Dr. Eric Nkansah asked that the guardians ensure that their wards hand over all school property to the school before leaving the school for good.
In November last year, the female students in a video, that went viral on social media, rained insults on the President, accusing him of bringing about economic hardship among others.
The matter angered many people who called for severe punishment for them.

No, GES, you punish children to reform them. This particular punishment cannot be said to be reformative. Asking these girls to go home and never to come back again is below the belt. They will not only become liabilities to their parents but society in general. I wish that the president will plead with the GES to rescind their decision. Nobody can deny the fact that the girls went to far, all the same pardon is the way to go. The kind of politics we do in this country is what has led to all these. Elderly people who should know better sit on TV and radio insulting their political opponents in the name of democracy instead of hammering on the issues. If you call your political opponents theives, sakawa, criminals, mafia, dwarfs, etc, what are you telling your children? Freedom of speech should be accompanied by responsibility. We know people who did worse things in school but today some are in key positions contributing their quota to society, if they were sacked from school for indiscipline, they won't be where they are today, from politics to Chieftaincy to the judiciary to commerce to the civil service to the army, the police, prison service, fire service, immigration , the universities etc they are there, plenty.
This concert and drama will soon be over in the coming days. This thing is just a Charade. Watch the next steps. Charade First of all the new DG is trying to catch some attention with all the bruhaha that greated his Appointment. In the Coming days, The President will order that the students be reinstated to show that he's the father who';s compasionate . That's all what this quak is all about. Simply, to give some unmerited attention to the president .
These students have sacked within the whole GES meaning they cannot continue any schooling as long as they remain in Ghana. Is that how Akuffo-Addo was broght up or brought his kids up? Or his kids have been 100% obedient all through their lives. No wonder his kids have nothing solid to show off on their upbringing. Egoistic parenting! And that DG... An adequately trained teacher in the position of GES-DG would never sign such a letter. He would be wise to weigh that such a decision does not help anyone. I abhor indicipline but these leaders aew blind guides.
Too harsh, suspension or hard labour within the school compound would have been enough. What is the future of these girls without education. They have since apologized for their misbehavior. The president even though the victim in this case should intervene in the interest of the future wellbeing of the students. We will continue to correct our children until they become adults. You don't throw the baby away together with the bath water.
Education minister have you seen what you are planting ,clever bold students with indiscipline and bad morals .
