The Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Mr. Kwesi Pratt who is also a leading member of the CJA, has castigated the Mills administration and the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), for their handling of the decongestion exercise at the Central Business District of Accra.
The NDC, he said, took advantage of the hawkers situation to use cheap communist tactics, as well as putting a spin on every aspect of the NPP governments action towards a similar decongestion exercise, in order to win sympathy votes from eligible voters in the 2008 elections. Why are you doing this to the hawkers, he inquired. Sacking them means collapsing their business and how would they make ends meet? he asked.
According to him, some of these hawkers do not ply their trade on the pavements, yet the AMA still went ahead and sacked them.
This is also their source of income so the government should quickly find a solution to it and allow them to operate, he advised.
Pratt was speaking on Peace FMs morning show, Kokrokoo during a studio discussion on the AMAs decongestion exercise to rid the city of hawkers, especially at Central Business District of Accra.
