The New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Tain constituency in the Brong Ahafo region, Ofori Amanfo, who was arrested by the police for his alleged involvement in violence at a registration centre on Saturday, has been released on bail.
The candidate, who was arrested with five other NPP activists, were formally charged with assault on Tuesday.
Speaking to XYZ News, the Brong Ahafo regional Secretary of the NPP, Alfred Ofori Anyeh maintained that the suspects are innocent.
He said Amanfo, the candidate, was not at the scene of the clash between supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the NPP, which led to the stabbing of one person.
He said the suspects including the candidates were wrongfully arrested adding that the law enforcement agencies had no right to arrest them.
He added that the candidate and the five other activists have returned to their constituency to continue with their work.
