The Electoral Commission has opened nominations effective today, September 13, 2016 for registered political parties and independent candidates to file their nominations to contest the December 7, polls.
Deputy Director in charge of Public Affairs of the EC, Yussif Alhassan Ayuba, has indicated the filing of the nomination forms will be done on September 29 and 30.
Presidential candidates of the various political parties are expected to pay GHC50,000 to enable them file their nominations to contest in the polls, while the filing fee for parliamentary candidates has been pegged at GHC10,000.
Majority of the parties, especially the smaller ones have protested the figure, claiming it’s a ploy to disqualify them from contesting in the upcoming December 7 elections, but the EC has rejected that claim.
The EC has indicated that it will meet over the concerns expressed by the various parties.

Basically a 3rd term for mahama. In 5 measly years, mahama has turned governance into extortion and perfected it 500% times over. examine if you will, the cost of a Driver's License, passport application, car insurance, electricity tarriffs, water among others and you will see for yourself. no wonder departments, commissions and other institutions of state have all joined the free-for-all rubbery. at what point do ghanaians actually rise up and call this precisely what it is-oppression. if only we had leaders who could recite the national anthem, they would know there's a line about "resist the oppressor's rule" For me this pretty much is it. Like the non muslims forced to pay 10% of their earning as Jizya till they convert in Arab Countries. Mahama wants to be challenged by the only person he can steal an election from hence the attempt to prune off the others. those wishing for 4 more years of this should think of the nation as a whole for once.
I believe to contest for the presidential position of a country, 50,000ghana cedis is nothing. How much will it cot you to campaign nationally. The parliamentary fees should be reduced for economic reasons. We need more parliamentary contestants and not presidential candidates.
