There was a near scuffle between some volunteers of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) and Azorka Boys, a group whose members are believed to be loyalists of the ruling National Democratic congress (NDC) in Tamale in the Northern Region, Today can report.
Some volunteers of the PPP, Today gathered, over the weekend were doing door-to- door campaign to sell the message of the party to the electorate in Tamale when suddenly they were confronted by the Azorka Boys.
According to the volunteers, who could not believe what they witnessed, the campaign was to let their supporters and sympathisers know that the PPP flag-bearer, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, was still in the presidential race, for the December 7 polls.
Speaking to Today in an interview via telephone yesterday, one of the PPP volunteers who gave his name as Mubarak, said the Azorka Boys approached them and asked them to stop campaigning when they got to a place called Melcom Junction in Tamale.
“They (Azorka Boys) told us that they don’t want us and our party [PPP] around this place so we should leave if we cherish over lives,” Mubarak said.
According to him, initially they did not want to listen to them “but five more heavily built men joined them the earlier four who had warned us to stop campaigning.”
That development, he said, put fear in them as they manhandled them, and in the process even seized some of their placards, flyers and two exercise books.
He indicated that because of their numbers and violent nature, they did not want to engage them in anything.
“…because of their numbers and violent nature we peacefully boarded our vehicle and left,” he said.
Meanwhile Today understands the regional executives of the PPP in Tamale have since reported the matter to the police.

So who gave the Azorka Boys the power to stop any person from campaigning? It is this kind of lawlessness that puts me off as far as some parties are concerned. As I always say, we are not building Ghana. We are building NDC and NPP. What a nation of jokers!
