Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur has strongly defended government’s decision to withdraw teachers and nurses trainee allowances.
He said the withdrawal has not only increased enrollment but has also enabled government to re-invest the money in infrastructure and equipment to enhance teaching and learning.
Vice President Amissah-Arthur said this when he jointly inaugurated members of the Tertiary Education Institution Network of the NDC at the Nalerigu Nursing and Midwifery College and the Gambaga College of Education at Nalerigu in the Northern Region.
He said it was a difficult but a necessary decision taken by government and urged the students not to think about their immediate comfort; but also the future the Mahama government wants to create for generations to come.
“The welfare of nurses and midwifes is a priority of the John Mahama led government and they would continue to invest and empower them”, the Vice President said.
Mr. Kwesi Amissah -Arthur used the occasion to do some one on one interaction with some of the students to give meaning to ‘Health is Wealth’.
He addressed topical issues in the health sector as well as the investments government is making to create sustainable jobs for nurses, doctors and other health workers.
He also touched on government effort to further widen access to healthcare.

These students are not kids oo. At least they have completed shs and can reason. The so called package comes with treating their tutors as tertiary lecturers.Has that been done? No! But you were quick to scrap the allowances. How many students have received the so called loan? Agya Amissah and Baaba Mahaama, you cant deceive today's students. CHANGE IS COMING!Salvation is coming for teacher trainees and nurses and all workers. Azaa vice and his corrupt boss.
In fact ndc have no sympathy for ordinary Ghanaian to say you withdrawing our meagre allowance to expand infrastructure, we were enjoying this allowances and Rawlings and Kuffour continued to expanded these, In fact Kuffour built school blocks for Islamic has, Catholic jss and B school jss at Agona Duakwa without nurses/teachers allowances and oil money. I believe you doing this to pay dubious judgement debt, woyome, sada, jida asofoton and Akua Donko. You are killing us ndc. Nurses/teachers and all high school students please wise up and vote for you and family future. Amen
he looks like a donnkey
We from the North and Volta regions cannot feed ourselves without these allowances. Our parents can't pay this hefty school fees and also feed us too. pls restore the allawa or we vote NPP.
Do this ''John'' also know something about suffring Ghanaians. Do he even understand what he is saying? Mahama ***barred word*** went to school freee to where he is. How many Ghanaian can afford admition fees to this institutions? We Voltarians shall show you this time round.
Amissah Arthur eee..! don't bother to explain ok. We understand everything. Yourself and your NDC will soon, also understand when nurses and teachers withdraw their votes and invest it elsewhere in their future and stomach infrastructure. If you think you can f00l ghanaians all the time, then better think again. We are wiser than yourself and your boss Mahama. Donkeys!
