National Democratic Party (NDP) has raised concerns over the Electoral Commission’s treatment of its presidential hopeful, alleging a possible attempt to rig the presidential race in favour of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The party made this known yesterday following the detection of 33 fresh errors on the nomination forms of its nominee, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings.
The Commission in a letter to the NDP said the errors must be corrected by 5:00 p.m., yesterday [November 8], to enable the party’s nominee contest in the upcoming presidential elections
These new discoveries, follows the Supreme Court’s dismissal of the EC’s suit challenging an Accra High Court ruling asking it to allow the presidential nominee of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, to fix the errors contained on his nomination form.
According to the ruling delivered by a seven-member panel, the election management body must extend the nomination period to November 8, and allow the candidates to correct their mistakes in order to contest the polls.
The court also ordered the discontinuation of the various court cases regarding the disqualification of other presidential aspirants.
However, the NDP in a statement signed by its General Secretary, Mohammed Frimpong, accused the Commission of doing the bidding of the ruling government.
According to Frimpong, the actions of the Commission were wrong, illegal and a clear violation of “our human rights.”
He thus alleged that: “The EC has shown its hand, that it is actuated and driven, not by a desire to deliver a world-class election in Ghana, but simply to hand the presidency to a selected candidate.
“We are calling upon the EC to immediately desist [from] its oppressive tactics and with immediate effect reverse this illegal demand of us; else we would have no option but to return to court.”

Have the Electoral Commissioners been reading the comments on the net? If they do, do they realize the people's confidence in the Electoral Body is sinking very fast? Do they know this action throws more doubt on the credibility of the results of the polls? If that happens, what are the consequences? Do they feel good when people are complaining here and there? I fear the nation.
Yes, the EC's tactics are so clearly written on the wall for all to see. it is quite clear that the hand of God is in the 2016 elections, and all of EC's plans are being exposed and dealt with one after the other.
No Comment, I will rather hold my peace but this woman of a EC Chair must be watch. I wonder whether she has really practiced as a lawyer or got the qualifications to assist her work which to me she is not showing and therefore being totally unwise. She should read the following cases: Awuni v GES Aboagye V GCB and JSC Sowah famous statement in the case" Tuffour v AG Asare v AG
Even your own Children have no faith in you. If it were no so, Zanetor would have contested on the ticket of your party. Go and play with your grandchildren and stop disturbing our ears.
