Mr Seth N. O. Dabi-Dankwa, a former Director of Education, has said the pledge made by the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) to restore the allowances of teachers is a ploy to get votes as the policy was unsustainable.
He said a careful assessment of such an allowance policy, under our current economic climate, suggests that the educational sector could be gravely affected should the allowance be restored.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr Dabi-Dankwa said restoring the allowance could lead to the reduction of the number of teachers employed in schools and thereby reduce the quality of education that the country is striving to attain.
He said the removal of teachers allowance has enabled government to employ more teachers and this is more beneficial than paying allowances that would place more pressure on government expenditure and thereby lead to the employment of less teachers in the education sector.
The former director of education said the NPP's flag bearer's promise of restoring the teaching allowance shows his lack of understanding of the dynamics in the education sector.
Mr Dabi-Dankwa said it is important for politicians to make realistic pledges that would enhance the progress of our country.

Some people who call themselves educated are too ***barred word*** of others that they always want to pull him down, what is the meaning of what this guy called Dabi - Dankwah is saying? If you can't do it because you have no idea don't say somebody else can't do it. This can't do it spirit in some people in Ghana is destroying the country. It was the big dream of an American for America to go to the moon,if it were in Ghana these fo*ls who call themselves educated but rely only on what someone has dreamt off will laugh off and say how possible can a man go to the moon because of the gravity, but here is America the land of the brave, everything is possible with them. Let these ndc hired ***barred word*** be in their own can't do it spirit and live with it till they die. NPP has done it before without oil and when the world was in recession so can do it with every promise they've made. They have the will and courage to turn the country around,we believe them more than your ndc chop chop party. GET THE HELL OUT OF OUR LIVES,UNPATRIOTIC EVIL ONES.
Without oil Ghana was able to pay teacher training allowance, but with oil we are unable to pay. Mr. Dankwa is talking about the economy here, yes is true that Ghana's economy is not doing well because of bad leadership. If prudent measures are taken with good leadership the economy can grow to sustain it. We loose a lot of money through corruption, inflated government contracts, large size of government, dubious judgement debt and many more. If the above mention practices are cut down we will be able to save a lot ,pay the training allowances and sustain it as well. Ghana is not poor we are rich with so many natural resources. Is corrupt and incompetent leaders and professionals like Mr. Dankwa who don't speak the truth who has renders this nation as ***barred word***. Ghana will work again.
What do you know about economy?Where did he say that? Do your politics which you have liberty to do. But it will not wash.
