The United States Ambassador to Ghana, Robert P. Jackson, has refuted claims that it has taken sides with the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), over the violence that broke out at the residence of the opposition leader, Nana Akufo-Addo.
The United States (US) Embassy, in condemning the violence of the elections, threatened to revoke visas for persons who incite violence ahead of the elections. The United Kingdom Embassy, also issued a similar statement.
But the NDC in a press statement, accused the US and the United Kingdom (UK) Embassies of being influenced by what it called the opposition New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) “malicious propaganda.”
The accusation came after the two Embassies condemned a recent clash between supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the NDC.
Reacting to the allegation, Mr. Jackson insisted that, the statement, which was drafted in Washington, was not aimed at attacking the government.
“If you read the statement read by the Embassy and made by the Public Spokesperson in Washington , we do not ascribe blame for any act that occurred. The point in issuing the statement was to alert people that the US government is and was concerned about political violence. That message seems to get lost a bit in attempting to say that we are blaming one party or another. The statement does not blame anybody. I want to be really clear about that. The Embassy’s statement which is much longer, is very clear that we were expressing our concern about violence.”
“The statement by the Department’s Spokesperson used the word targeted in terms of talking about Mr . Akufo Addo’s house; but it does not say who started it, who ended it, and who was responsible; so I want to underscore that we are not trying to take sides,” he said.
Mr. Jackson also indicated that, the US Embassy values its relationship with the various political parties and is also interested in ensuring a free and fair process during the December elections.
“We value our relationship with the government of Ghana. We value our relationship with the National Democratic Congress and with all other political parties. We are not trying to say we support this party or that party. What we support is a fair process and the fairest process will be free of violence and intimidation.”

Whom the cap fit, let them wear it. Also, when dry bones are mentioned, old ladies become agitated. Period.
HERE IS A FAIR AND UNBIASED RESPONSE FOR THE US REMARKS ABOVE. I know that the ENGLISH language is for the US more than Ghana but may I ask, if someone says an attack is targeted at an NPP flag bearer's house what are the implications? THAT THE NPP TARGETED ITS OWN FLAG BEARER?; WAS THE CLASH between NPP AND NPP?; IF IT WAS BTN NPP and NDC THEN BY INSINUATION THE US IS SAYING NDC TARGETED THE NPP FLAG BEARER by common sense analysis and interpretation.
well this whiteman should not have responded as NDC will just not read. but please you too stop making the arms for us.
America.and Britain failed in syria,Iraq, afganisstan, and why should the ndc be afraid of them if China is rising. We ndc wil rather go to Russia,Togo, than America
It seems this years election in Ghana for Dec 2016 has attracted such extreme attention from both the UK and US embassies in Accra and they have decided to use VISAS as a carrot and stick to control agitators; stillers and these NPP and NDC cause trouble bandit ; the reasons are simple both the US and the UK and europe have so much invested in Ghana that any attemmpt to derail the elections and cause mayhem means these counteries will come down like a ton of bricks on any body besides any attempt for Jon Mahama to rig the elections and cause an uprising will see a heavy response from these counteries ; THE WARNING TO MOST OF THESE MINISTERS AND PARTY OPFFICIALS INCLUDING JON MAHAMA HIMSELF IS THAT THEY WILL NOT FIND IT EASY TO SPEND THEIR LUTTED CASH ABROAD : THEY WILL BE REPATRIaTED BACK TO GHANA ;THEY THEY PROVEN TO HAVE STOLEN THEY WILL SSENT BACK TO GHANA EXCEPT RUN AWAY TO DUBAI ; THE STAKES ARE VERY HIGH for these counteries ;do not be surprised if special forces from the US and UK are already located in Sierra leone or Liberia to be deployed to Ghana to maintain law and order in case there is trouble ; these people are well prepared and as for our mickey mouse special forces ; they are a JOKE !!!!!!!!
@Danny Thank God you said they were burning and destroy cars but not attacking individuals
what smoothness level are you referring to? It is blackman mentality statement. Be firm and say what you think and not because you are afraid of somebody or nation. If ndc is wrong just say that and if the ambassador is wrong or right just say that also. Do not be afraid to point your views out because they will show you your smoothness level. That is the reason why i like Mugabe or the Islamic states. lets have confidence in ourselves. Look at what Avram Grant is doing to us, but the GFA is afraid to say or sack him. If it was a blackman or Kwasi Appiah the story will have been different, and this happens in most of the companies being owned and managed by foreigners in the country. They maltreat our people but nobody is able to say it. What is american visa?
See oooo look at NDC again!!! Try Trumh and you will smell pepper. Now that No one can travel outside Ghana, when you start it we will all be trapped behind to play the games. Shame on you NDC.
The ambassador should not have wasted time responding to these NDC n**on sense and their min*d.less dolts. Don't dignify these id*iots by responding to them. They lack sense and basic understanding
EEHHH NDC GUILTY CONCIOUS ANYWAY WHO THE CUP FIT LET WEAR IT. ALSO NOT THEIR FAULT THEY ALL DONT READ.
