Editor-In-Chief of the New Crusading GUIDE, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako, has observed that the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) defeat in the 2016 General Elections was largely caused by the party’s focus on discredited worn out attacks instead of campaigning on issues.
The NDC lost in the 2016 General Elections with a difference of 1, 502, 749, polling 4, 213, 277 representing 44.40 % while the New Patriotic Party (NPP), won by 5, 716, 026 representing 53.80%.
In his assertion on Metro TV Thursday morning Kweku Baako noted that the party rather decided to make the flagbearer of the NPP, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo popular by their vilification and attacks on his personality.
He observed that the party’s parliamentarians, district and municipal chief executives became over confident and complacent, relying on the image of President John Dramani Mahama and the projects he commissioned.
Kweku Baako could not help but alleged that the NDC managers squandered the campaign resources and went to sleep, thinking that victory was automatically theirs.
“And you could see that from the pockets of violence which has broken out in the party about some supporters complaining that monies did not reach them”, he posited.
Unlike the NDC, Mr. Baako further observed that the NPP was more focused and unperturbed by the division and past election results propaganda against them, saying “they did more of a retail campaign, where Nana Akuffo Addo changed his strategies and tactics”.
He stressed that they took lessons from the 2013 Supreme Court rulings and became more determined and vigilant so much so that they trained their polling agents very well and took the reforms by the Electoral Commission and the Inter Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) seriously.

u said it all my boss. i always love your sound judgement. i knew they will loose the election but wasnt expecting this kind of defeat. over 1.5million votes difference? i would never had predicted that. but this makes me believe that I was right to say ndc will do everything possible to loose the elections. i said this about a month to the election when they were campaigning. they (ndc especially mahama) knows the npp's manifesto more than any member of the npp. mahama never made a statement without talking about either nana or bawumia and their manifesto. they keep telling the ple what npp intends to do when given the mandate and the ple listened. we may have short memory but definitely not deaf. i am glad Ghanaians were good listeners. mahama and ndc do not want to run the country anymore looking at the mess they have created and want someone else to take over so that they can stay back and criticize. this is a fact and only top ple in ndc knows the plan. they just can not come out to tell the ple otherwise nobody will take them serious. that would have been their end. well i am of the believe that we are going to have a one party state if npp is serious with running the country.
The lord is trying to teach Ghanaians something hence the election of nana addo. He wants to disgrace all sycophants calling themselves patriots. We live to see how kweku baako, martin amidu, otabil and martey would criticize nana addo when he gets it wrong or they would be quiet. The Ghanaian voter has become overly sophiscated that the result result of 2016 means no party can come and lie his way to victory and get away with. Nana addo is likely to be pelted with stones in the next elections if he fails to provide all the promises he gave Ghanaians, because he raised the bar so high and is likely to pay for it in no time.
You have said it all
