Veteran Journalist and Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide Newspaper, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako has advised President-Elect Nana Akufo Addo, to keep the Flagstaff House name of the seat of government when he assumes power after January 7, 2017.
Former President John Kufour with support from the Indian government put up the over-$70-million edifice and named it ‘’Golden Jubilee House’’ to commemorate the country’s attainment of 50 years as an independent State. However, the NDC under late President Mills soon as it assumed power in 2013 re-named it the “Flagstaff House.”
That action by the Mills-led administration was roundly condemned and was much to the displeasure of a section of the public especially members and sympathizes of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). The NPP for its eight years of being in opposition and its then NPP Flagbearer and now President-elect, Nana Akufo Addo has consistently reffered to the seat of government as the Jubilee House even though the name has officially been changed. This has led to a section of the public envisaging a possible reversal of the name of the seat of government back to the Jubilee House soon after President-elect Akufo Addo takes over the reigns of power.
However commenting on the matter on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo show Wednesday, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako urged Nana Akufo Addo to maintain the status quo. “I protested when the NDC changed the name from Jubilee House to Flagstaff House, but there was an explanation that if was for purposes of nostalgia…back to Nkrumah and I reminded them that Flagstaff House was not built by Nkrumah and that it was a colonial legacy, somehow Nkrumah decided to retain it. I wasn’t comfortable with the change from Jubilee House to Flagstaff House, but if I were Nana Akufo Addo, I will not change it back to Jubilee House…I’ll leave it alone.” He added: “But the NDC was so unfair, the name Jubilee was not to personalize anything, but to show our 50th anniversary as a nation post independence, so that was more nationalistic which the NDC should’ve maintained.
But they came into power and played petty politics…they changed Ohene Gyan Sports Stadium to Accra Sports Stadium. Ohene Gyan was such a great Ghanaian but the NDC ochestrated some Ga-Dangme agitation and eventually got Ohene Gyan’s name removed from the stadium…these NDC people have caused trouble in Ghana.”

Name should revert to GOLDEN JUBILEE HOUSE. FLAGSTAFF House was the designation for the location/office of the Flag Officer commanding the colonial army that kept us Africans in check, so I don't understand why our so-called "Progressive" NDC nitwits want to honor our oppressors. In my opinion Nkrumah kept the Flagstaff House name as part of his BIG MAN syndrome, his megalomania authoritative trait - Using the white man's feared title to keep his subjects in check. GOLDEN JUBILEE HOUSE is more representative of our aspirations and achievements as a Nation. CHANGE IT!
Ladies and Gentlemen, let's name it JUBILEE FLAGSTAFF HOUSE to close the saga. 428967
Where should be the monument of our 50th birthday as a country? OYA WE SHALL GO BACK TO GOLDEN JUBILEE HOUSE to ascertain the hard and good work of prez Kuffour period.
Jubilee House is better. NDC bye bye forever
What you saying may be right to you Mr.Kwaku .To me as a Ghanaian I don't agree with you.We are under the colonial masters again..That place were the place all the flags were keep are we keeping flags there again. That place is the sit of the president of Ghana .President elect should change it back to Golden Jubilee House
Stomach bogus journalist .who the fork are u to tell the ndc what to do?ur cocoa season is ready again as u did during kuffour time by becoming soo rich , with numerous mansions and fat bank account
SOMEBODY BUILD A HOUSE AND GIVE IT A NAME. YOU SUCCEED TO LIVE THERE AND YOU CHANGE THE NAME. IT IS ONLY OUT OF STUPIDITYYY AND AND DISRESPECT OF HARDWORK OF OTHERS THAT WOULD LEAD ONE TO DO THAT. NDC PEOPLE ARE SO UNREASONABLE THEIR REACTIONS. WHILE THEY PUT IMAGE OF PAST PRESIDENTS ON BUSES THEY INCLUDED THAT OF MAHAMA YET THEY EXPECT HIM TO WIN ELECTION. HOW POSSIBLE. NOW AS THEY LEAVE POWER THEY EXPECT OTHERS TO RECOGNIZE ANYTHING THEY HAVE DONE WHEN THEY DID NOT LIKE TO DO THAT TO OTHERS. NYAME ATUA MO KA. ANIMGUASE3.
THE NAME SHOULD REVERT BACK TO JUBILEE HOUSE. PERIOD
Mr.Malik Kwaku Baako, I don't agree witrh you on this issue. When NDC decided to change the name of the sear of government, from JUBILEE HOUSE to FLAGSTAFF HOUSE, you did not tell them to maintain Jubilee House. If the NDC can change the name, why can't NPP also change it?Why is it that if it is done by the NDC then it should be maintained but if it is done by the NPP. then it can be changed? Kwaku Baako why? I hope you do not want the name FLAGSTAFF HOUSE maintained because Kwwame Nkrumah lived there. I am sure you know the origin of the name FLAGSTAFF HOUSE and certainly it has nothing to do with Nkrumah.Well you have given your advice and I am also giving mine: Nana Akufo-Addo, please change the name to JUBILEE HOUSE as named by J. A. Kufuor.
Why? NPP commentators u are all over the radio, television and the Net calling NDC leaders and supporters names. But mind you,the vulgar language u spew on the air waves will not put bread and butter in our pockets. For he wants to drown his neighbor, friend or enemy must be prepared to get wet.
