Veteran Journalist and Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide Newspaper, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako has advised President-Elect Nana Akufo Addo, to keep the Flagstaff House name of the seat of government when he assumes power after January 7, 2017.
Former President John Kufour with support from the Indian government put up the over-$70-million edifice and named it ‘’Golden Jubilee House’’ to commemorate the country’s attainment of 50 years as an independent State. However, the NDC under late President Mills soon as it assumed power in 2013 re-named it the “Flagstaff House.”
That action by the Mills-led administration was roundly condemned and was much to the displeasure of a section of the public especially members and sympathizes of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). The NPP for its eight years of being in opposition and its then NPP Flagbearer and now President-elect, Nana Akufo Addo has consistently reffered to the seat of government as the Jubilee House even though the name has officially been changed. This has led to a section of the public envisaging a possible reversal of the name of the seat of government back to the Jubilee House soon after President-elect Akufo Addo takes over the reigns of power.
However commenting on the matter on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo show Wednesday, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako urged Nana Akufo Addo to maintain the status quo. “I protested when the NDC changed the name from Jubilee House to Flagstaff House, but there was an explanation that if was for purposes of nostalgia…back to Nkrumah and I reminded them that Flagstaff House was not built by Nkrumah and that it was a colonial legacy, somehow Nkrumah decided to retain it. I wasn’t comfortable with the change from Jubilee House to Flagstaff House, but if I were Nana Akufo Addo, I will not change it back to Jubilee House…I’ll leave it alone.” He added: “But the NDC was so unfair, the name Jubilee was not to personalize anything, but to show our 50th anniversary as a nation post independence, so that was more nationalistic which the NDC should’ve maintained.
But they came into power and played petty politics…they changed Ohene Gyan Sports Stadium to Accra Sports Stadium. Ohene Gyan was such a great Ghanaian but the NDC ochestrated some Ga-Dangme agitation and eventually got Ohene Gyan’s name removed from the stadium…these NDC people have caused trouble in Ghana.”

jubilee house it what it was meant to be. I have a strong feeling Nana would like to go back to that. Can we have a law to back that revert? As for flagstaff house, it does not make sense. Which keepers and watcher of Ghana's flags sleep there?
Well Kweku you are not Nana Addo and you can't think for him or his party. The NPP will change the name becuase that is what the majority of the people want!
I know where Kweku is coming from, so as to say if the children are being silly and doing all sorts of ***barred word*** things don't follow Suite or join them as a responsible adult. But am of the opinion that one should not unnecessarily compromise rights and good convinctions for things which one may deem expedient and mature for that sake, to let it go like that. The whip must needly be cracked in such matters.
Npp/ndc criminal gangs are going to take 2months to debate this bull ***barred word***,this is the kind of journalism hypocrites like kweku Baku is going to begin with.to divert attention
Kweku, there you go again. Why do you choose to dabble in controversy? At this transition period when introspection, goodwill and prayer should be ongoing to usher in the new government you are thinking of naming of house! NDC signs contracts on soul sourcing and employ people without interviews and you are happy. Reverting to Jubilee House is a must but this is not important now. All contracts awarded will be re-awarded on tender basis and all positions will be filled with people who pass interviews to be conducted by the requisite bodies. Kweku, the title of veteran Journalist should not make you open your mouth before you think. At least Ghanaians are spared the of Kwesi Pratt for now so you should also lie low and spare us of controversies
Koliko, can you do us a favour? What is your qualification? You call someone bogus journalist.why are you like that?
GREETINGS MY COUNTRYMEN! WELL IN MY OPINION, I THINK NPP GOVERNMENT SHOULDN'T CHANGE THE NAME BACK TO JUBILEE HOUSE. AM SAYING THIS BECAUSE I WANT THE NPP GOVERNMENT TO DO AWAY WITH SOME OF THESE PETTY POLITICS AND REMAIN FOCUSED ON THE MANDATE FOR WHICH MAJORITY OF GHANAIANS VOTED FOR THEM. IT IS PAINFUL WHEN YOU LOOK AT SOME OF THESE PETTY POLITICS PLAYED BY THE NDC BUT I WANT NPP TO PROVE TO GHANAIANS THAT THEY ARE MORE MATURED THAN THE NDC. NPP PLEASE LET THE CURRENT NAME REMAIN AND FOCUS ON THE GOOD GOVERNANCE THAT GHANAIANS ARE WAITING TO ENJOY UNDER YOUR ADMINISTRATION. THANK YOU.
WHO IS THIS BLOOOOOOODY ***barred word*** MAKING NOISE ALL THE TIME ***barred word***.SHUT THE FUUUUUCCK UP.I WENT TO THE SAME BOARDING SCHOOL WITH YOU IN KUMASI.MODERN CITY ACADEMY.FROM INFANCY YOU'VE BEEN CAUSING TROUBLE.WHY/WHY/WHY/WHY. ***barred word***.
There we go again, Kweku the genius and all-knowing maestro of Ghana politics. Everything NDC does is never right; however NPP will do the same thing, and our dear Kweku will be up from his stool and start dancing to their tunes. I suppose a journalist shouldn't be one way thinker. The success of NPP and Nana administration is goods for every Ghanaian, but this holy assumption that NPP and Nana have all the solutions to the country problems is delusional.
But does naming and renaming brings food to the yable of Ghanaians. Why are we so petty, we have more challenges bad see what KB is tackling, renaming of FGH to JH and what happens. Let us be serious for once in this country.
