Veteran Journalist and Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide Newspaper, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako has advised President-Elect Nana Akufo Addo, to keep the Flagstaff House name of the seat of government when he assumes power after January 7, 2017.
Former President John Kufour with support from the Indian government put up the over-$70-million edifice and named it ‘’Golden Jubilee House’’ to commemorate the country’s attainment of 50 years as an independent State. However, the NDC under late President Mills soon as it assumed power in 2013 re-named it the “Flagstaff House.”
That action by the Mills-led administration was roundly condemned and was much to the displeasure of a section of the public especially members and sympathizes of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). The NPP for its eight years of being in opposition and its then NPP Flagbearer and now President-elect, Nana Akufo Addo has consistently reffered to the seat of government as the Jubilee House even though the name has officially been changed. This has led to a section of the public envisaging a possible reversal of the name of the seat of government back to the Jubilee House soon after President-elect Akufo Addo takes over the reigns of power.
However commenting on the matter on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo show Wednesday, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako urged Nana Akufo Addo to maintain the status quo. “I protested when the NDC changed the name from Jubilee House to Flagstaff House, but there was an explanation that if was for purposes of nostalgia…back to Nkrumah and I reminded them that Flagstaff House was not built by Nkrumah and that it was a colonial legacy, somehow Nkrumah decided to retain it. I wasn’t comfortable with the change from Jubilee House to Flagstaff House, but if I were Nana Akufo Addo, I will not change it back to Jubilee House…I’ll leave it alone.” He added: “But the NDC was so unfair, the name Jubilee was not to personalize anything, but to show our 50th anniversary as a nation post independence, so that was more nationalistic which the NDC should’ve maintained.
But they came into power and played petty politics…they changed Ohene Gyan Sports Stadium to Accra Sports Stadium. Ohene Gyan was such a great Ghanaian but the NDC ochestrated some Ga-Dangme agitation and eventually got Ohene Gyan’s name removed from the stadium…these NDC people have caused trouble in Ghana.”

Kwaku I often appreciate your comments but let me educate you a little here. The British often built a place where the Governor and his staff would stay or use as office. Since the staff carried the flag of Britain, they were called flag staff. Their house was therefore called flagstaff house. QUESTION: ARE GHANAIAN PRESIDENTS CARRYING BRITISH FLAG? if NO then why FLAGSTAFF HOUSE?
I just cant wait for the new administration to take over affiars.Looks like the like of Kweku Baako will be the chief advisers to our new president.Has anyone noticed the authority with which he talks and demands things since Npp won? This country will be sweet was.
Just came back from Ghana, folks. I saw a real first hand eye witness of Ndc's wickedness. I can say with the highest degree of certainty that, most Ghanaians (voters and nonvoters) are happy to see the back of these ndc folks. Anyway, I agree with Kwaku, Nana shouldn't change the name.
For the first time I disagree with you, nobody give birth to a baby then another man name the baby. If that happens, such a man is more than ***barred word***, we will change the name back to its original name lastest by midnight 6th june 2017. H.E Nana Addo will stay at jubilee house not flag staff house
NDC are real trouble makers in our country, they hate this nation but want to enjoy from her, they value that their gidigran colours which makes one look like a sick person more than our national colours, they call themselves ndc when in power and in opposition call themselves Ghanaians this shows how evil they are. They hate anyone who is not ndc and thought Ghana should be named the republic of the ndc but Tafiakwa never, lie, lie !Now that they are in opposition let's listen to their new cry. Ndc is not good for Ghana. My prayer to God is to disolve it in confusion and thank God the good people of Ghana have found the evil in them and have voted them out gargantuan unprecedented and miserably. Never again should Ghanaians ever think of the ndc coming back for they have nothing to offer the nation.
Why mention Mahama as somebody who should context for NDC primaries, with whom? Let's forget about him 4.5 litres( 4.5 yrs president or 1 gallon president). We don't want him because Ghanaians has rejected him. Old cassava don't sell.what a disgrace at the polls. NDC PAA hmm party in Govt! By 6months time water will find it own level.
