Information gathered by 3news.com has confirmed that the office of the president, Nana Akufo-Addo, has received a letter indicating that former president Mahama is no longer interested in staying in his cantonments bungalow.
The former president had requested that he was allowed to keep the house at the No. 3. Prestige Link, Cantonments as part of his retirement package. He has lived in the house since 2009: as a vice president and president.
The request generated a great hue and cry across the country with some groups revealing their determination to eject him with force if he continues to stay in the house. But Mr. Mahama in a letter to President Akufo-Addo on Tuesday withdrew the letter expressing his interest in that bungalow and another building on No. 6, 3rd Avenue. “It would appear that these requests threaten to mar the spirit of cooperation with which we as co-chairs of the Joint Transition Team have managed the smooth transfer of power from my administration to yours.
“…My request is therefore humbly withdrawn.”
Meanwhile, sources at the Flagstaff House, the seat of government, confirmed that the former president’s letter was received on Tuesday evening. The President, Nana Akufo-Addo is yet to take a decision on the latest letter, the source said. He also noted that the president is very much aware of the requirements under the Transaction Act, and would also respect recommendation to provide Mr. Mahama a befitting residential and office accommodation.

If you knew you were not going to give him the house, why did u aggree to it when both of you met and discussed it with Otumfuo...lets say u changed your mind after the meeting(everyone is entitled to that)... I think Mahama deserves some level of discretion. To blow this out of proportion like this and ridicule him does not sit well.. its not what we do, its how we do it...This is really in bad taste.
Did Mahama indicate when he would be out of the residence he nearly pinched with impunity? It is very important to Ghanaians when he is bouncing out of the residence, because it is very, very long overdue for him to bounce out of that residence, very, very long overdue. When is Mahama leaving the residence? Ghana must know now!!!
Better withdraw it. Greediness at its peak. No sympathies for you Mahama the looter. With all the properties u have in Ghana u still want more. Greed does not pay. Why did you copy Asantehene? Is he the overalll ruler of Ghana. Asantehene please stay out of this.
all of you are saying what mahama did to kufour, what did kuffour also do for jj rawlings you dont remember that one because he is not in your party abi? hipocrate people
Mahama should be charged for causing financial loss to the state. He illegally occupied the VPs house whilst holding the Jubilee House. Consequently the VP lived in the house supposed to be used by the Governor of the Bank of Ghana. The state then had to pay rent for the Governor of Bank of Ghana. See what ***barred word*** Mahama has done?
With the beauty of Ghana democracy, this should not have happened, particularly, when people believed nana would do things better. What is that house anyway. Is it going to be used for offices or what. I am sure, the person who will go and live in that house will be haunted all his life over there. Nana has taken off very very wrong.
I am sure in the heart of heart of nana addo, president mahama should still be living in his cantonement resident. The only problem is that he is allowing party disgruntled big wigs to detect to him. If nana addo succumb to pressure mounted on him by those around him, he will fail miserably as mahama failed. The era of vindictiveness should be over. Ghana does not need tic for tac that is why they voted for change, so if you come and you also maintain the status quo then, what change have you brought. Ghana is for all Ghanaians, it does not belong to NDC or NPP. Peace is what we all need. I am sure if this continues, NDC may come back and retaliate, which is barbaric.
Please don't forget Former President Kufour Took tax pays money to renovate His Own House so why should he be giving a house again?...... Please check your facts...
Grateful if you could check your facts and get it right before you open your mouth rather accusing of the facts!! Kufuor has an official office provided for by the state. In terms of residential, Kufuor and Rawlings were provided with but because they were NOT consulted, they both rejected the offer insisting they need to have a say in what ever they are offered. So please check your facts before wrongly "dissing" others.
