A retired Supreme Court Judge, Justice V.C.R.A.C Crabbe has called on Parliament to allow some Parliamentarians who have a difficulty expressing themselves in the English language to contribute in their local dialect.
According to Justice Crabbe, there shouldn’t be any difficulty in allowing Members of Parliament contributing to debates in their local languages via an interpreter.
His comments come days after the MP for Akwatia Mercy Ama Sey was mocked on social media for expressing herself poorly in English during an public event. But speaking on Morning Starr Tuesday, Justice Crabbe told host Francis Abban that leaders who decided to express themselves in English must learn to speak the language well.
“As an MP or leader, if you choose to speak English or any local language, you should speak it properly…I do not see why we cannot speak our local languages in our parliament house.
“An MP may be able to express himself or herself better in the local dialect,” Justice Crabbe said.
Justice Crabbe added that people must stop paying attention to paper qualification which is affecting the working population.
“We pay too much attention to paper qualification… Some people do not have Paper qualification but rather have brains.”

I think you are not thinking outside the box !!!!!!KWARAAA !!!!; the issue here is not using a particular language for all Ghanaians ; the issue here is affording the opportunity for all MPs in whatever language to speak in their local dilect in parliament with interpretors at hand to interpretate for each MPs who cannot or express her/his thoughts in english language because the fact that you cannot speak english does not mean you are uless ; would it be a great idea if relevant documents of the law and loan agreements or economic policies are translated into all the local language; would it be not a joy if mathematics or other subjects which would benefits are translated into our local languages because the colonial powers went to great expense to translate the bible into our local languages and who do you think paid for these transaltions and who do think did the transaltions for the english ; it was a clever deguise that by reading the bible we shall be saved whilst these same people plundered our wealth ; don't you think if the people in the galamsey mining areas knew the damage they were causing to our rivers at school or were thought in our local languages people will rise up against these Chinesse destroying our rivers because water is life ;today people living round these areas do not know ; as far they are aware galamasey is providing jobs but if they knew of the consequence they will rise up and drive these chinsses out ; MP lady need not speak english or french ; she should be allowed to speak her own language because that is what she understands besides it is an impediment British put in our way ; they knew the consequence of not developing our languages because they knew it would benefit them ; this MP is very clever and a business woman ;how many of these so call thiffs MP's masquerading as MP have ever run a business ; has Ablakwa or Sam George run a business in their lifes and therefore what contributions can they give just because they speak english other than stilling from Ghanaians ; GHANAIIANS SHOULD WAKE AND STOP SLEEP WALKING UNTO THE CLIFF.
Where was twi mentioned in the story Peace FM. We have languages in Ghana which are international.Talk of Hausa, Dagbare, At least Ewe is spoken in three West African Countries, Part of Nigeria, Togo and Benin. Plesae nobody should impose any language on Ghanaian as a lingua Franca.
Mr crabbe didn't mention any particular local language so where from the word 'twi'?.Local radio station
Talk of langage popularity, I will say Hausa because zongo's are in every community and in communities in Africa, north of the equator. Or we can use Ewe, why not? Or Gonja, or Nampurle, Kotokoli. All I want to say is that English is more popular in Ghana even more than Twi. Electoratres and political parties must be educated to understand that being an MP requires more than being able to convince your people to vote for you. Where was NPP when she was being primed to stand as an MP? After the votes she to go and defend and lobby for her people on various international, national and local platform and so you will have to be literate in at least one international language (English or French).
i agree with the senior citizen. sometimes the agreements approved and later the comments from the same parliamentarians means that some of them dont understand the English and will need interpretation in local language. or should i say they were being dishonest to Ghanaiana?
The old judge VCRAC Crabbe is CORRECT and must be appluaded because the concept of using our local languages have been discussed since Kwame Nkrumah's government besides this campus jewish Prof Nomsky at the MIT in the US argued in his book language as a key determinant of development argued that any man born of creation thinks in his mother language and not in a language learnt ;the jewish people will never speak in the english language ; his argument is that you think well in the language you were born in ; the problem in Ghana is that most people have to interpretate their thoughts in their local language and then interpretate it into the english language for them to give a reasonable answer to an issue ; the progress of most developed counteries have been based on the use of their local language besides most heads of state including China ; Russia; Germany ; French will never use the english language to communicate with the world ;can you imagine old Putin in Russia speaking in english laguage to Russia -NO WAY !!!!!!!; Indonesia ; China ; Maysia and other developing counteries have discarded the english language and use their own local language ; if Ghana had developed the skills odf using local laguages in our national lifes Ghana would have progressed a long time ago but today we are STUCK with no PROGRESS because of the language problem which have been turned into a political football by these uless politicians who can speak english but do not understand it ; to me all donor counteries or lenders should be made to write loan agreements in local languages or these loan agreements should interpreted in parliament by professiona interpretors to these parliamentarians who do not understand the english language; the worst part is that most of these so called lawyers speak the english language but do not understand it ; most the decisions take at court are based on the false interpretation of the english language ; the old PRFO VCRAC CRabbe is correct ; MPs should be allowed to speak in our local languages with interpretors ; if foreigners do not understand it -BAD LUCK because even at the UN we have intrepetors who do this work !!!!
What about when they have to read t four inch 2000 page loan agreement? Who would read and interpret for them? Our parliament and government is mocked daily. Only the judiciary reserves some semblance of integrity
Opanin, one of such people who did not go beyond Form 4 is Nana Kwame Ampadu. the Highlife King of all time in Ghana. (Even though this man can speak very good English). I would have wished he was a member of Council of State
it is called common sense. not everyone got it. he was arguing from the point where the akwatia mp cannot express herself well. did the akwatia mp speak lebanese
Where in the story did he say Twi????? Sha.me peace fm
