Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, has served notice that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) will not compromise the use of the country’s oil revenue in funding some key policies of the government which have been outlined in the 2017 Budget.
The government has indicated in the 2017 Budget Statement that it intends spending the part of the Annual Budget Funding Amount (ABFA) on its major flagship policy – free SHS as well as the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) with the sole aim of alleviating poverty from the country.
However, the Minority Leader contributing to the debate on the budget on the floor of the House, Wednesday, March 15, 2017, said his side does not support and will never support the government in funding the free SHS with proceeds from the country’s oil find.
“Mr. Speaker, we will not accept the use of our oil money for consumption,” he noted.
Commenting further, the Minority Leader also raised serious issues about the government’s intention to abolishing duty on the importation of spare parts, insisting that such move must be regulated.
“We on this side will demand that it is regulated because even new vehicles can be cannibalized to become spare parts and therefore it must be regulated. We put levies on imports to discourage it but you are rather encouraging imports and how can you help improve on balance of payment when you adopt this attitude? he quizzed.
Hon. Iddrisu also slammed the NPP government for presenting a budget which he says was weak on infrastructure.

who are u to prevent government from using the oil money to finance it policies? if u have forgotten who u, i am to renind u that,u are now a MINORITY leader. so ur say does'nt matter anymore.
Yes, the oil money will be used to build our nation just like it is done everywhere. You peole have mansions in Dubai, etc. Where do you think their governments got the money to build their countries. The current government will use its oil revenue to build the country and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it. Tweaaaaaaaa. Who are you to issue warnings?
What's your problem you guys couldn't do anything why all this things
Haruna we are in the era of big time dreamers, thinkers ,and and smart actors and not the era old fashion small thinkers. better reprogramme or disembark
It is my prayer that all the oil that God has blessed the country with would be drilled during the NPP era so that the proceeds would be used to develop the nation and educate our people like we see in other countries like dubai. Every member you talked to is going to dubai. Ghana was so many years ahead of Dubai at the tines we discovered oil. They have managed to build a better place for Ghanaian to steal their country's oil money to invest there. If some is left these NDC people will use the money as non existing capacity buiding and support projects where they will inflate prices to siphon the money.
Haruna, so you and your ndc want to use the money for capacity building which doesn't exist.
Hon. Remember u are on minority... When u were on that hot seat, u used our money for nothing(anyhow) but different regime has come with a promise to used it wisely for the development of this nation. If u can't pray for it, sleep and we want disturb... Your govt said he has done more infrastructure so there is no need for that now or😐...
Why are some ghanainas so greedy? Didn't school on the northern scholarship scheme? Those of us whe went to 6th form did so govt bursary. I didn't pay a cent for my entire two years at pojoss (92 -94 a level group). If the economy was able to absorb the budget then why cann't it support it now? I do accept that the number was very low but the economy was as big as it is now. Germany does not have gold nor oil but provides free education for all who find themselves in their educational system. They don't have home nor foreign students' fees! Their arguments are that lets train all and in so doing make contribution to development of human kapital. Secondly they believe that foreigners who pass through their educational system and are able to find work here in Germany will pay tax that will help to payfor the cost of free education for all. Back to Ghana. What is the need for keeping money in an account that attracts little or no interest and borrow at a high rate to finance our budget. Secondly, what is the significance of heritage fund if the nation is not preparing the youth to prepare effectively for the future. What is the essence of keeping money for people who are not properly educated? Why is it that the very people who had some form of free education are fighting to derail such a very good initiative?
But this is the same man whose gov't used our money to brand buses. What is he talking about?
In opposition the NPP is against the usage of oil fund in everything, today table has turn and they are singing a different song, a professor once said if you are looking for logical reasoning, you don't go to UP, NPP or PPP
