Editor in Chief of the New Crusading Guide, Mr Abdul Malik Kwaku Baako has stated that the ad-hoc committee set up by parliament to investigate the bribery allegation went on a wild goose chase.
Although the ad-hoc committee found the Bawku Central Member of Parliament, Mr Mahama Ayariga guilty of contempt of parliament and recommended that he should be sanctioned in accordance with Section 35 of the Parliament Act, 1965 (Act 300), Mr Baako believed that the allegation still has the potential to hurt the integrity of parliament.
Punching holes in the claims by Mr Ayariga that members of the Appointments Committee of Parliament received monies which was meant to induce their approval of Mr Boakye Agyarko as Energy Minister, Mr Baako said Agyarko was over qualified and does not understand why he will go to such extreme to bribe members of the committee.
According to the Veteran journalist, there was no incentive or motive to bribe members of the ACP with GH¢3,000 each.
"In this case we all know the man over deserved it. Over qualified and indeed if it was not his articulation and submission at the committee level, even in numbers his side will vote for him anyway. So the motive, the incentive for Boakye Agyarko to have gone to that extreme is non-existent", Mr Baako said.
Contributing to discussions on Joy FM’s Newsfile programme on Saturday,Mr Baako wondered why a member of parliament will receive GH¢3,000 and claim he doesn’t know it was meant to influence their decision on a ministerial nominee.
Although Mr Ayariga had alleged that members of the minority side of the committee had assumed it was an allowance, Mr Baako rejected that assertion saying that " Why would he give you the money without telling you the purpose because you are supposed to execute an agenda....the bribe giver or the transmission belt or whoever will let you know.
“....the man must make you aware why you are collecting the money and the purpose and in this case it is a criminal mission. He must let you know he is influencing you negatively. In this case it is so clear.”
He added that “if he gave you the money and told you it was an allowance. What was the purpose he was going to achieve? Could he achieve the purpose of influencing you to approve a nominee by consensus then that purpose is not there?
“If you were not told that this was meant to influence you to do something criminal and you took it as allowance; you would have accepted it as allowance. So you still would have stuck to your position that this man (nominee) must not be approved, ” Mr Baako added.

While we welcome Princess Anne it is important that we do not forget that Ghana is an independent sovereign nation. Ghana must not disappoint the African Union, neither must we truncate abruptly the relations with other countries that have been built over the years. The United States a much larger country is now home to more people of Ghanaian ancestry than Britain. The remittances brought to family members in the country keep many families going. Our friendship with some countries have sustained our health system with some of the best of foreign doctors, provided our citizens with scholoarships and opportunity to study etc. Some people have always had their visa applications at the British high commission in Accra refused.
@Agarko, if I want you to execute an agenda by giving you money, isn't it common sense to at least tell you my mission of giving such money? If I give you money without telling you my mission how can you undertake such an agenda?
Folks, do not let us forget that there is an iota of truth in every lie. whether it is true that Agyarko paid bribe or not, posterity will judge
Anyone who dosen't know and learn from his history is Fuuuuuulisch. In modern world data and for this instance, Information Collection is key in planning for our future. If we don't reflect on the hindsight we may not be in the Position to cllect our mistakes or make informed decisions.Information, Facts, researches and pieces of Neewspaper articles produced at a time or a century ago, wether they are false or true, give us clear Picture of where we have come from, going forward. I pray that Nana, the President is able to fulfill 15% of his promises and I bet, NDC will be a dead Party.
You are very wrong to say that with reference to the past one can't make intelligent decision. This F00OLISH mindset of most Africans including you is the reason why people in Ghana get reoccurring issues such as the annual national flooding, burning of markets, road traffic accidents etc. There is a reason to keep records so that it will guide us to making informed decisions in going forward. That is what every civilised state do. Now it's dry in Ghana so we are happy, not thinking about our drainage systems and sanitation. June/July will be here and people will soon be flooded and the death toll will rise. After we will have the ***barred word*** Media Houses such as Peace Fm, Adom FM etc. sending people to the scene and talk about the problem instead of solution. Then it will be the call on the NADMO & president to do something. Two weeks and it will be over to the next year when another set of people die. 'Gyimie' in Africa. On the other hand what will make Agyarko give bribe knowing very well that under no circumstance the minority could stop his nomination? I am even shock about the discussions of some F0OOLS on Airwaves like that of Adom FM Dwasosem. Their assertion of this issue was as if they have no brains. So sad. Clearly, we heard the minority trying to get Agyarko to apologise for calling Mahama corrupt. This is a clear case of Politics of Equalisation.
Anyone who always had to refer to history to make his point is not a smart person. Kweku baako never speak off his head. He always have to refer to old newspapers to make his point, so he can't be a smart person for me to take him serious. When you make an allegation against three persons, it would only take seriously God fearing persons to admit they did wrong. This is a case where ayariga made the allegation against three persons. Knowing the seriousness of the allegation the three can meet and discuss that all of them should deny, leaving ayariga to his own fate. As much as ayariga could be wrong, it is equally possible that he might be right. In the same way, the three could be also lying or saying the truth. God would judge each one of them at the right time.
How fuulish can you be! Did you not respond to your mother's name? My name agarko and not agyarko or boakye agyarko. Stop being an ediot.
@agarko. If you are afraid to review your identity, please don't contribute.. In any case, what did Kweku Baako say that was untrue? You tell me how it is possible for someone to be bribed, without him knowing the agenda he was being influenced to execute? You are the one not making sense.
Please lets desist from always looking at national issues with political lenses. This case is logically incoherent ,and we all know it !!! There are bigger issues at stake , let put our energies into making GH greater for our children and generations yet to come
This is the most elementary argument I have ever had kweku baako made. The fact that someone is over qualified to be a minister does not take away that person's corrupt tendencies. Who says if one is qualified to do a job, then he cannot be corrupt? Another argument that the majority would have voted for him anyways, so it wouldn't make sense to bribe some members is also flawed. How do you know, whether most of the NPP MPS even liked him. Probably, he had an information that nobody knew, hence his attempt to offer bribe. Finally if go to the developed world, mps vote against their parties whether they in majority or otherwise depending on their principles, so Mr baako, stop not making enough sense. Anything is possible.
