Atik Mohammed has called on the government to clamp down on vigilante groups in the country to safeguard Ghana's democracy.
Speaking on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo', the General Secretary of the People's National Convention (PNC) expressed worry over the culture where political party functionaries, particularly the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), attempt to justify the existence of the vigilante groups.
Atik Mohammed was commenting on the recent attacks by the "Delta Force", a vigilante group affiliated with the NPP.
“If there’s any threat to our nation’s democracy, it’s this vigilantism that is going on,” he stated.
Condemning the formation of vigilante groups, Atik urged President Nana Akufo-Addo and his government to take action against the "Delta Force" and any other vigilante group.
To him, the President should not only be angered and keep lamenting about their behaviour but put measures in place to check them.
“As for political leadership, you have no shares in this enterprise of anger and lamentation. Yours is to take action. When something happens, you have the right to be angry but your response to the issue should not be that I’m angry . . . We wanted to see immediately some action going on for us to know that indeed this is a fast response government,” he told the President.

Two groups of the so-called Delta Forces are in court, so what action are you thinking of? We saw similar violence in 2009, but this is the first time in the Fourth republic that activists of a ruling party have been arrested and arraigned before court. When Mills was President a DCE was driven from office by NDC footsoldiers and declared persona non grata in Yendi and no arrest was made. The district police commander said it was a political matter. In Wa contract bidding documents were seized and burned (also at the RCC as in the Kumasi), and in Tamale angry foot soldiers burned the office of the then GYEEDA, and not one was arrested. So what are people talking about when for the first time action is being taken against such lawlessness?
I hate private party vigilante groups but what did you tell Mahama when the Azorka boys were misbehaving? All such groups must be disbanded.
What do you want the president to do. Take a cain and whip them? You ***barred word***
@Kanawu, you after elections in America trump people are seizing passport officers, seizing courts and state institutions and beating up president appointees like you Delta forces are doing in Ghana? Bow your head in shame, you are not the only one who knows about America. Your Nana is a total failure. He is a disaster.Shame!
MR MAN EVEN AFTER AMERICAN ELECTION THERE WERE SOME GROUPS BEHAVED ALMOST THE SAME THING,SO LET US HAVE EARS.HOW MANY VOTES DOES YOU AND YOUR PARTY GOT IN THE ELECTION RESULTS? THINK THE WAY HOW YOUR PARTY CAN GET EVEN 5 PERCENT IN OUR NEXT ELECTION. IF YOUR PARTY WAS HAVING A PERSON LIKE EVEN BAWUMIA YOU WOULD HAVE GOT SOME GOOD RESULT.DO NOT BEHAVE LIKE NDC MEMBER.
Ah, but the law is taking its course. The guys who escaped from lawful custody have been and bonded for 6 months because they turned themdelves. The courts always show leniency when the accused show contrition or turn themselves in. Meanwhile, the main case against them is proceeding, while the guys who rioted at the court and caused their escape have been arrested and charged. I don't know what else people want the President to do. Just to be heard?
He has taken action already!! Do you think he should go to a radio station to shout. Get used to this kind of leadership. He is not going to be dancing to 'Yentie Obiaaaaa'
