A former Northern Regional Minister and regional campaign coordinator for John Mahama 2016, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru-Limuna insists former president John Dramani Mahama remains the best bet for the party in 2020.
“He is the one who is spiritually and physically capable to lead the party to victory in 2020. It is either John Mahama or no one else. My prayer however is that he should accept to go as our candidate in 2020 despite claims by his family he will not run again”, he told mynewsgh.com in an exclusive interview.
Alhaji Limuna said the former president per the constitution is still qualified to run and if successful rule for another four-year term indicating that he has contributed immensely to the development of the country just that Ghanaians have failed to show gratitude and his track record will be largely depended on for the 2020 campaigns.
On why the party lost to the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), he said there was disconnect between the top hierarchy of the party and the grassroots which resulted in disaffection among the youth in particular who failed to vote for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
“There were certain things we overlooked that cost us. There was disconnect from the top and the ground and the youth were a bit aggrieved and we needed to pay special attention to them. I commissioned someone to do a research and it proved that they were very angry and likely not to vote for us.
I shared the report with other people but they did not give me the hearing”, he stated.
Aside that, he observed that there was governance fatigue among Ghanaians not because the government of the day was not performing, but that the citizenry were just not willing for the continuity of an NDC government.
“It has now been put in the minds of Ghanaians that every government has a maximum of 8 years not because of what the government of the day can do for the people. All the good things and the struggling we did, they were not moved. All they wanted was change and you know God works in several ways and as a believer of faith there are reasons God does certain things”, he added.
He however appealed to the rank and file of the party not to turn the party’s mistakes into blame games underscoring the need for the party to restructure and reunite and become a formidable force to reckon with in 2020.

I wonder how many votes he has, instead of appealling to the people to consider the JM, you are bragging. Even when he contested no one, he had about 6,000 delegate voting against him in the primaries. Please come down and beg your people for consideration
How can Mahama win when people like you Limuna are not ready and willing to bring yourselves to the grassroots? How many times did we call you and sent you messages on whatsapp for just fuel to support our campaign in the Eastern Corridor and you never replied? You read messages and you never replied. Even the DCE for Salaga and the PC for Kpandai came to my team ("WE STAND 4 NDC")for T. Shirts and other paraphernalia. But I am not an Executive neither was I supported by the Party. Only committed members like Zuwera Harruna of the UK High Commission then supported us even from afar. As Regional Campaign Coordinator you never got closer to committed people like us. Even Yellow and his team in Kpandai took shirts from us . If JM is still to come back then you people should be ready to do away with your selfishness and greedy lifestyle.
The probable reasoning for certain people to bring back Jon Mahama at any cost is just a repetition of the last NDC choice of leadrship elections when Asidu Nketia refused to allow anybody to contest Jon Mahama ; the QUESTION IS THE NDC TODAY DEVOID OF ANY LEADERSHIP MATERIAL to lead the NDC party ? mine take is simple it is not the case that the NDC is devoid of leadership material ; the truth is that JOn Mahama through various dubious means have stashed so much cash that nobody in the party can contest Jon Mahama for cash and not the leadership position ; JOn mahama used certain people to hide his stolen cash to fund his next campaign through his brother Ibrahim Mahama; Stan Dogbe and Omane Boama by awarding various contracts which everbody knew he had certain percentage to collect through Ibrahim Mahama ;ie AMERI contracts ; today nobody in the NDC has that financial clout to stand against Jon Mahama unless the grassroots RISE UP against the leadership besides tribally the NORTHNERS WISH to take over the party again and have sidelined the ewes; fantes and the Gas in the party but the trouble is that these northners are incompetent and very corrupt ; they are greedy and are are only prepared to steel and not to govern Ghana ; if Jon Mahama is elected he will lose BIG TIME election in 2020 because nana Addo will run again in 2020 and will step down around 2022 for Dr Bawumia ; THE NDC PARTY IS RATTELED ; CONFUSED AND DIVIDED AND JJ RAWLINGS WILL NOT HELP THEM THIS TIME !!!!!!!
The money u stole when u were in power chop it small small because u are not getting power for the next 20 years. Tieeeef
What has been rejected should be remain rejected. A word to NDC is enough!
4 days ago JDM called him to give him easter house....loluuuu
These utterances will damage the chances of NDC in 2020. Are they saying the NDC is deplete of presidential materials? As for Mahama, I only have pity for him. He can't decide for himself so some of his friends will lure him into a bigger disgrace.
so NDC have no material to replace John Mahama, is that what they want Ghanaians to believe? asumming John Mahama is brought back and in the unlikely event that he wins 2020 can he do another 4 years or continue to do another 4 years and how many terms would he be allowed by the constitution to do,NDC please rethink carefully the comparison in your minds are different from that of Mills and Nana's situations, Mills and Nana were not sitting presidents, The spirit of the constitution I believe do not intend that you lose after 4 years go and sit home and come back to contest again for the balance of 4 outstanding, anyway we would see and test the constitution if NDC brings it on.
Npp please watch the ndc and the ec closely from now since Mahamah is definitely going to contest again.
"...just that Ghanaians failed to show gratitude." Listen to yourself. Gratitude for what? The arrears to GETFund, contractors, NHIS, school feeding? The monies wasted and dissipated at SADA, GYEEDA, Brazil? Your 100 member delegations to UN general assembly meetings, girlfriends included? NDCs destruction of the education system, with the sole purpose of creating an army of half baked literates, who can be fed any lie just to enable you win elections till thy kingdom come? The unnecessary so called VEEP residence, which was surely going to become Mahama's in the long run? The pushing of contracts to family and friends only? The expensive power contracts you've engaged in, just to make sure you get your cut to put up your mansions and filling stations dotted all over? The way you abandoned the Cedi, allowed it to slide, making everything expensive for the ordinary Ghanaian, because we are largely import-dependent? The way you abandoned students abroad and forced many to abrogate their programs or left them living in penury and affecting their relatives back home financially and psychologically? The way you ran the petroleum sector keeping prices artificially high just so that you ***barred word*** ***barred word*** could continue making maximum profit from your filling stations? The way you guys suddenly became owners of real estate in Dubai the most expensive country in the world? The way your First Lady printed 20m t-shirts in China embossed with her husbands image? Whose money did she use? Or is it the foundation she never had before 2012 and was suddenly sporting more money than any government ministry in Ghana and could distribute electric sewing machines, gas cylinders, gas cookers, scooters, outboard motors, pieces of cloth, bags of rice and many more? Or is it the Maggi cubes and mosquito coils your party distributed to your compatriots in the north just so that you get re-elected and someone like you Limuna and your demigod Mahama could lead an extravagant lifestyle down south? Are these some of he things we were supposed to have been grateful for? Don't annoy me here.
