Ibrahim Mahama, a brother of former President John Mahama, has settled a Gh¢12 million debt owed the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
He was given a two-week ultimatum to clear the colossal amount failure of which his assets would have been confiscated by the State.
The beleagured businessman reportedly issued over 20 dud cheques in 2015 to the Customs Division of the GRA, being duties for imports of equipment.
Two Stanbic Bank cheques bearing the names of MBG Ltd and Holman Brothers both companies belonging to Ibrahim Mahama has been issued to the GRA to settle the debt.
Both cheques were issued on May 4, 2017. MBG Ltd owes Gh¢10,216,258.47 while the latter is due to pay Gh¢2,176,544.61. Ibrahim Mahama had a settlement arrangement with GRA since December 2016, but failed to honour that deal from February 2017.
But GRA officials went to the bank to cash the cheques but were shocked when they were informed that the “accounts were closed.”

IF IT HAS NOT BEEN CHANGE THIS MAN WOULD NOT HAVE PAID THE MONEY WHY DID HE WAITED FOR TWO SOLID YEARS? THIEFS ALL ROUND I BELIEVE THAT IS OF THE FAMILY. THE ONE WHO EVEN CALLED HIMSELF THE PRESIDENT IS NO EXCEPTION
So what are the NDC Communicators saying now. This is money owed to the Ghana Government and not the NPP. The payment will be credited to the Consolidated Fund
That's ramiti!! Who say man no dey? Change is good!! Those of you defending him, should explain this. The guy never denied the fact.
Bank cheque issued means the bank takes responsibility. If it's a business cheque the business name will be in the cheque. Besides that's the wisest thing GRA has to do. They don't have to accept a business cheque from him.
Massa; These are not Bank Drafts they are bank cheques ;the question is has these cheques cleared already ?
If these are the cheques issued to GRA then they are good to cash because they are bankers draft.
ALL THE FACTS ARE KNOWN NOW. LETS WAIT AND SEE IF THE CHEQUES WILL PASS THE COUNTER THEN PROSECUTE HIM. HE IS NOT ABOVE THE LAW
Speculation, speculation...... wait till all facts are known
He had the money and wanted not to pay or what? And people were calling this witch hunting.
