Members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have never come to terms with Dr Kwame Nkrumah being given the legendary status as Founder of Ghana, Member of Parliament (MP) for Sagnarigu, Alhaji A.B.A Fuseini has said.
For this reason, he said, the party has always looked for opportunities to wipe out Nkrumah’s legacies and status in Ghana’s history.
His comments come in the wake of the NPP celebrating the formation of the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC) as they marked the 70-year anniversary of the founding of the party on Friday August 4, 2017.
The NPP, an offshoot of the UGCC believes the formation of the first political party was a precursor to Ghana’s independence, hence worth celebrating.
But commenting on this development on State of Affairs on GhOne TV on Friday August 4, Mr Fuseini said: “The NPP have never come to terms with Nkrumah being given the legendary status especially as the Founder of the nation and they have always looked for an opportunity to revise that status of Kwame Nkrumah.
“Even in the times of Nkrumah, streets and monuments were named after certain people who helped in the struggle for independence and so if this August 4 celebration is about recognition, then certain important national monuments and other things can be done in honour of all those people who played the role in gaining independence for Ghana but not as Founders.
“I say that it is important that all of them who contributed like Sergeant Adjetey, Corporal Atipoe and the others who died on the 28th February incident are honoured with monuments but never as Founders of this nation, there can only be one founder and that one founder is Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah.”

You see People turn to be biased without realizing that they are being biased and hence seem to miss otherwise, very important facts. Because they are so much consumed or obsessed by their thinking and reasoning- that they fail to express their appreciation where and when it is deserved and due. I believe Nkrumah was politically prepared in his own right and had made his mark before he was recognized and invited to Ghana. Hence, he was entrusted with fulltime secretarial and organizational position to pursue the independence course, a common course shared by those who invited him. Therefore, there was no doubt that his intellectual capability and political acumen were not underrated. It is, Indeed, very important to note that, the inviters were intellectual, political and unilateral in appreciating that Nkrumah was fit for the Job. They were, however, in the course of development sidelined by Nkrumah, because Nkrumah was too ambitious, authoritative, and rigid in his course to handle or be engaged in any intellectual discourse. He was strategic, ambitious and not diplomatic that was why he unnecessarily created enemies for himself both inside and outside Ghana. And that contributed to his downfall and he failed grievously in his course- not in terms of attaining independence per se. Indeed, he couldn't have just coped with Busia, and the Big 6, because he believed he knew his audience better than the the Big 6 did, when he came to Ghana. And he spoke the language they understood, mobilized veranda boys into politics and they voted him into power. Whilst, Busia and Dankwa were enjoying their old Oxford life in Ghana (Kweison Sackey).Nkrumah never thought of working with those who invited him to Ghana, though they had a common course to attain Independence for Ghana. If all those brains who saw the need for our independence at the time, were not sidelined and allowed to contribute in their diverse opinions with the aim of arriving at a consensus, we could have made the best out of our independence. That One man show was a flop
