The incitement of civilians to depose the Akufo-Addo government via a coup d’etat by the main opposition National Democratic Congress’ Deputy General Secretary, Koku Anyidoho, is not only “condemnable” but also “objectionable” and “reckless”, the party’s MP for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga, has said.
According to Mr Ayariga, Mr Anyidoho, who once served as the spokesperson to President John Evans Atta Mills, “ought not to say a thing like that”. The late Prof Mills was known to be a man of peace and earned the moniker ‘Asomdweehene’ – King of Peace. “It’s certainly objectionable”, Mr Ayariga said in an interview on Wednesday, 28 March with Joy FM.
Mr Anyidoho threatened on radio that there will be a civil coup d’etat to topple the Akufo-Addo administration in connection with Ghana’s signing of an agreement with the United States government which gives the latter unimpeded access to some of Ghana’s security installations.
Speaking on the issue, Mr Anyidoho told Happy FM on Monday, 26 March that: “Somebody should tell Nana Akufo-Addo that history has a very interesting way of repeating itself.
“On January 13, 1972 a certain Col. Ignatius Kutu Acheampong led a movement that removed the Progress Party from power. Busia was the Prime Minister and Akufo-Addo’s father was a ceremonial president. Somebody should tell Nana Akufo-Addo that history has a very interesting way of repeating itself.
“There’ll be a civil revolt. There’ll be a people’s movement. During President John Mahama’s tenure didn’t we receive similar threats from the likes of Let My Vote Count and OccupyGhana.”
“There’ll be a civilian coup d’etat; there’ll be a social revolution and the movement is starting on Wednesday. He [Akufo-Addo] will be fed up at the presidency,” Mr Anyidoho said.
The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service arrested Mr Anyidoho on Tuesday and charged him with treason.
While appealing to the police to grant Mr Anyidoho bail, Mr Ayariga said: “I think that they [police and law enforcement agencies] did a good job so far. We must respect the law enforcement institutions that we pay to maintain law and order. We must also learn to put country above party politics and appreciate the limits of our politics”.
“I want to appeal to the police to … exercise some restraint and grant him bail. I believe that Koku has learnt his lessons and all those who are monitoring will come to appreciate the fact that whether a political or non-political platform, there’s a limit and we should not cross that limit and we should not be seen supporting and condoning statements or actions that cross those limits," Mr Ayariga said.

NOW I UNDERSTAND THAT,EVER SINCE YOU DISGRACED YOUR SELF FOR SAYING LAIRS ABOUT 1ST DEPUTY SPEAKER OF PARLIAMENT JOE OSEI WUSU .AFTER THE COMMITTEE ENQUIRES. YOU SEEMED TO BE A CHANGE PERSON. PLEASE KEEP IT UP ,IT WILL BRIGHTER YOUR CHANGE OF BECOMING A FLAG BEARER. BLESSINGS
You have now become a human being like us...you have spoken well..
WHAT KOKU ANYIDOHO DID IS FAR MORE SERIOUS THAN WHAT THE THREE JOURNALISTS, MONTIE 3, DID TO BE JAILED DURING PRESIDENT MAHAMA AND HIS NDC GOVERNMENT. IN FACT THAT THREE JOURNALISTS WILL BE SADDENED AND FEEL CHEATED BY GHANA JUSTICE SYSTEM IF KOKU ANYIDOHO IS NOT JAILED.
My brother Ayariga, you have spoken like a good Muslim. As a people in a country and politicians, we should be able to say the truth no matter where it is coming from. Koku needs to be jailed. The insults from him is too much. He insults the president and the vice president at anytime he desires. Is that politics? You just wake up then open your mouth to say whatever you want to say whether good or bad by then you have some people to support you. It is time Ghanaians speak against the likes of Koku and Kennedy Agyapong because Ghana belongs to no individual. But as for the NDC party, i am highly disappointed in their support for Koku's irresponsible talk. As for the former president Mahama, the least said about him the better. my brother honorable Ayariga, keep it up. Ghanaians are watching who can be a good leader for our dear country Ghana.
That’s Wasup👍
Truth must be told. Acting honourably; this is where you belong Hon Ayariga. You should aim to be in the Class of Hon Haruna Iddrisu, Bagbin, Muntaka, etc NOT the Class of the "Gutter MPs" such as Samson Ahi, Suhiyini, Sam George, Okudzato, etc. You are too learned to go that low. You can do good job for NDC without stooping that low.
I have always respected you but you have really earned my respect so much today after listening to you this morning. Please my little advise to you is that keep this attitude of yours up. I see you to be a presidential material not the others in both NPP and NDC. May God continue to bless and protect you till you decide to lead this noble country of ours and not Mahama and co.
Honestly, Hon. Ayarega has spoken sense and shown to be sensible than most of my NDC guys who are rather disgracing the party and causing disaffection of many.
If most of the NDC members would speak like this and condemn what Koku said we will have a better Ghana. Honorable Ayariga, you've gained my respect today. It should be country above politics.
it is only in ndc that u will find ple like koku who talks from their an*s. i dont know where mills picked this guy from.
