The race for the national chairmanship contest of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) hots up as the Acting National Chairman of the party, Freddie Blay picks nomination forms in a quest to become the substantive National Chairman of the party.
As it stands now, the National Chairman Position is keenly being contested by Stephen Ntim, Alhaji Short and the Acting National Chairman, Hon. Freddie Blay; thus, the first two had taken their forms and Freddie Blay was the last to pick his forms as nomination closes today.
Speaking to the media at the NPP Headquarters after picking his forms, Hon Freddie Blay said he is confident the delegates will affirm him to become the substantive NPP National Chairman in the upcoming National Delegates’ Conference.
But he quickly added that even though he is confident to win the chairmanship race, he is prepared to welcome the outcome of the election and work for the party to retain power in 2020 elections.
“It is an election we are going; I am quite confident that the delegates will vote for me but definitely it is an election that is why there are other competitors. Whatever happens, it is within the party and we will work for the party no matter the outcome of the elections. I will not be surprised at all if I don’t win but I am confident I will win the chairmanship race”, he said.
Talking about his role in the 2016 election victory, Hon. Freddie Blay mentioned it was a collective effort with other executives and the Presidential candidate and his team that brought the party power.
He insisted that with him as a chairman of the party, they will do whatever they can as a unified body to retain power in 2020 elections for the party.
Touching on the recent media attack, Hon. Freddie Blay assured the media that they will work together to build this country without fear; thus, politicians need the media to amplify all policies for the citizens to support.
“We work with the media and between the media and politicians, we need each other. The media amplify all the policies that we come up with for the people to support. I think over the past, this party has shown and it is evidence that this party is the friend of the media”, he stated.
He stressed that “there could be a few rifts which we regret and which we have apologised for but that should not make anybody to convince himself or herself that NPP is anti-media; that is not true. You know it and Ghanaians know it. We should not subject ourselves or get carried away by that negative propaganda. The media is our friend”.
He therefore associated himself with Hajia Fati and the NPP to render an unqualified apology to the media, especially the Journalist who was assaulted; reassuring the media that “no bloody fears. Don’t fear anything and continue to do your work”.
