The Contractor of the Ofankor Hospital that remains shut for more than a year, has corroborated Vice President Dr. Mahamud Bawumia’s assertion that the facility was constructed at a cost of 5.7 million Ghana Cedis.
Barima Kwaku Ameyaw, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Georgeland Ventures Limited, contractors of the facility told MyNewsgh.com the total cost of the facility stood at 5.76 million Ghana Cedis or the equivalent of 1.3 million dollars as indicated by the Vice President.
According to him, the components of the facility include an admin block, OPD, adjunct clinical services unit, maternity block, operations and gynecology 50KVA standby generator, 19-street lighting, a wall and security post as well as a 32,000 liters water storage system or the equivalent of 3 boreholes.
Barima Kwaku Ameyaw told MyNewsgh.com he is pained that the facility is not being put to use particularly when the population of Ofankor as of 2010 stood at 489, 000 according to the Ghana Statistical service
The situation he explains is putting pressure on the Amasaman hospital and he is therefore appealing to the Minister for Health and the vice president to help equip the hospital to enable it to commence operations to serve the people of the area.
Dr Bawumia while peaking at the ‘Value for Money’ conference in Accra, the Vice President revealed that “at a recent meeting of the Economic Management Team (EMT), it emerged that Ghana constructs 60-80 bed district hospitals for $25 million and I said “Ebeii!”
He wondered how the African Development Bank could construct a 150-bed hospital in Accra for about GH¢5.76 million or $1.3 million without equipment, saying “even when they decide to equip the said hospital for some $1 million, the total cost cannot get to more than $ 3 million.
“So how come we are building district hospitals for $25 million, a figure which even excludes the tax exemptions granted on equipment imported for the hospitals?” he asked rhetorically.

Oh as for Mahama, Ghana knows that was his only expertise in gov't, create, bloat, loot and share and chew wickedly. That was all he knew. That was why even in his sleep, when you ask him what his campaign message was, he screams yes sir my lord infrastructure. You ask him about the economy-infrastructure. You ask him about the economy-infrastructure, you ask him about agriculture-infrastructure. He had used infrastructure to looooottttt so much it had become his anthem and Ghana today is a goner, with a debt stock from 1957 to 2008, bigger than all those different regimes and administrations combined.
A little research on the internet will tell you that projects in Ghana are usually over prized, we must get to the bottom of this, no wonder the national debt keeps ballooning.....
We want to compare NPP project to NDC you have not even lay one block since you assume power. only talk shop wake up
Even free mobile app cost Ghana GH¢2.5million. Mr liar kindly allow us to think small wai...we are tired of your noise making.
Did you say interest rate? ooh boy you have been coached to do this I guess. Please just try to cast your mind back and superimpose previous government and massa you might have been running away or join the ***barred word*** brigade. The previous government was like a deadly disease and infectious when it comes to wasting of money. Were you expecting them to get money by majic?
look people of Ghana lets stop following politicians blindly in this country. the bawumiah that is saying this thing is he even qualify to be talking like this with all his lies. this veep is just a noise maker who feels we are all not educated in this country. you said all sought of things when you were in opposition and now that you are in government you keep changing the goal post all the time. look at our exchange rate now, our water bill our electricity bill , cost transportation, high interest rate, . when you were in opposition you always told us there is enough money in this country so your government will not borrow and yet what do we see today. this is a veep who is never credible in anything he says. he should stop the lies and get to work to fulfill at least half of the promises he went round making during the campaign. if you realized the for government appointees were corrupt jail them and let it serve as a deterrent for every one
Who doesn't know that if you speak against npp opponents you get a favour with political appointment, and who doesn't know that the vice president is so incompetent, it is only lies he knows best.
Mr Kweku Ahinsan I don't think you understand the logic and the argument of the Vice President. True we cannot let such facilities go waste. But if we are to learn lessons so that we NEVER GO THAT PATH AS A PEOPLE, THEN SUCH NATION WRECKING MUST BE EXPOSED FOR WHAT IT IS AND WHERE POSSIBLE, THE PERPETRATORS PUNISHED. We can't continue the fama Nyame path ad infinitum.
So the hospitals must be abandoned like the several projects under Dr Kwame Nkrumah were abandoned? This is the reason many are jobless in Ghana. At least let the hospitals be operational to give jobs to our sons and daughters who have completed their training and have been at home for the past 4 or 5 years. I weep for Ghana.Politics indeed and not the country's well being.
The CID must prosecute the double salary NDC thifs as soon as practicable and get them behind bars......
