The Member of Parliament for Nsawam Adoagyiri, Frank Annor Dompreh has asked authorities of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to rescind its decision to change Kantanga hall into a mix one.
The management of KNUST on Wednesday, August 15, 2018, announced that, with effect from the 2018/19 academic year, all six halls of residence of the University would be converted into mixed halls.
The school had earlier converted the two all-male halls; University and Unity Halls to mixed halls; a move which was strongly opposed.
However in a latest event, the school authorities have decided to change all six halls into mixed ones.
The management said the decision is “in line with the university’s policy of periodic review of residential accommodation for students.”
The MP, who was once a student leader, speaking to the issue during a panel discussion on Peace FM morning show 'Kokrokoo', Monday, questioned the level of consultation that went into its current decision; adding “the court of public opinion is clearly against it” apart from that “they are arguing from a very weak point of view”.
"I would want to ask the university authorities to make a dignified retreat… The tradition in some of these halls is not a bad thing. It brings out a certain consciousness in you…and so I will plead with them. You have taught us to resist the oppressor's rule.
It doesn’t matter their position, they have to make a dignified retreat. Already we are struggling as a nation; there are a lot of things we have to deal with; they should not bring in any fight which is needless. Let’s maintain the tradition," he stated.

CAN'T YOU EXPRESS YOUR OPINOINS WITHOUT INSULT? FOFOFOOOOLLLIIISSSHHHHH GUYS
The tradition of the university was to be the hub of science and technology for the country what do we see now the non science courses are gradually becoming more than the sciences and you don't see it as a problem but the hall one is ur problem oh Ghana
When we have such people as leaders in this country, what else do we expect? Reason Ghana is at a standstill. Tradition and tradition and no progress. Senseless MP
Some MPs are still in the "Student mode" Very unfortunate. The University made the halls single/male halls in the first place but they don't have the power to change them? What ***barred word***. At KNUST students even don't choose to be in Katanga. It is the University that places students there. Is that a fair system? What about other men who would have wished to be there? People never complained about that so what is wrong with the University now deciding to place women there? Mr.Honorable, you are also arguing from a weak point of view. You cannot tell the University how it should be run simply because you attended same. If you attended Oxford or Cambridge do you think you would be able to influence how it is run now? Please give us a break.
S E N S ELESS MP. What is tradition in our so called HALLS. Come and change our policies for us. When you have block minded people as MPs this is what we wake up to hear everyday
When we want a place for people to sleep, you guys are talking about so called tradition which makes students lose their senses at times. Annor Dompreh cut the crab!!!!!!!
When u have MPs with such mentality how can d nation progress?Did d students use their own money to build d halls? U are a disgrace to parliament.Go back to sleep.
What are our mps talking about? which court of public opinion is against the authorize of KNUST. Should we sit back and allow people to continue to die in the name of a S.E.N.S.L.E.SS. tradition which does not solve any of our problems? in the 21st century when others are talking about scientific advancement, we are sitting here talking about a change in hall. Some of our MPs should find something better to talk and write about. We are sick and tired off them. If they dont have any ideas at least I can offer them one - SANITATION. spend those precious time to tak about sanitation which is killing people daily, its a better use of the time and resources,
Small brains in Parliament. I week for Ghana with people like this in Parliament.
***barred word*** mp. This is what you think will bring progress to education?
