The Energy Minister, John Peter Amewu, will hold further engagements with AMERI before a concrete decision on the controversial review is taken.
Mr. Amewu said this would be done to ensure better value for money and better transparency.
“AMERI as a company is an ongoing institution. They are rational like any other person. What will be best for this country is what we will do. The engagement processes will be more in an open and consultative process,” he told Citi News. The new agreement was to extend the current five-year deal with Africa and Middle East Resources Investment Group (AMERI) Energy, which is currently operating a 300MW emergency power plant in Ghana to 15 years.
The government was expected to pay a total of $1.375 billion for the AMERI power plant over approximately 15 years instead of the original $510 million.
But red flags were raised by Parliament’s Energy Committee over the cost and value for money, which led to the deal being eventually held back.
The then Energy Minister, Boakye Agyarko, was subsequently sacked over the matter.

I am a bit confused. So what exactly was wrong with Agyarko deal ? Isnt the said 510million deal- one that was signed for 5 years under NDC, how does this then stretch to 15 years. Is this a reportage error ? It seems there was intention to get rid of Agyarko anyway. Why go to bed with Ameri again ? Isnt this what NPP preached against ? I am sad and confused. Lets see how this goes and let's see if there was a plot to get rid of Agyarko If his demise was plotted then we have the typical Ghanaian black man narrative- plot and kill
So you are not afraid of this shrine called Ameri?hmmmm. Politicians and foolhardiness. The tree that killed Kwaku Ananse, you Ntikuma want to sit under and play chess. Go ahead and dig your own grave
We don't want any new Ameri deal, the old one is good enough as the whole plant will be own by Ghana in two years, so why renegotiate, just because they want to find a way to steal from it.In just less than two years Ghananains are already feed up with npp incompetency and mismanagement
please let's know the kind of review you intend doing. what component of the deal are you going to review? we don't want to hear another 'Misleading' story. it's good to inform the public about the aspect of the contract that you want to review. we all know the total amount is currently $510m and $102m yearly installment for 5 years.
