Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt has condemned the culture of flying people out of Ghana for medical care abroad.
Speaking to host Kwami Sefa Kayi on Friday's edition of Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo', Kwesi Pratt wondered why the health facilities in the country can't treat such patients and that it's only when they are flown out of the country that they could perhaps be cured.
To him, such behaviour should be encouraged because there are equally qualified medical practitioners and high quality health facilities in the country.
He was commenting on the demise of the late Ayawaso West Wougon Member of Parliament, Emmanuel Kyeremateng Agyarko.
According to Mr. Pratt, the practice of conveying patients abroad for medical treatment kills the spirit of nationalism as it shows little or no confidence in Ghana's health system.
He also explained that sometimes a patient's condition becomes worse when put on flight due to hours involved in getting him or her to a foreign country.
Kwesi Pratt called on authorities in the health sector and government to ensure the health facilities in the country are built up to international standards if they aren't and purchase sophisticated equipment to treat all manner of diseases in order to save lives here in Ghana.
“So should we go to America every time we’re sick? Should we go to Cuba or South Africa any time we’re sick? Don’t you think if we had the facility at Yale University in Ghana and he had been sent there last Sunday, just maybe we wouldn’t have had this situation . . .What sophisticated machine used to cure diseases that we can’t get or purchase into Ghana in order to treat people when they’re sick?” he questioned.
He however sent his deepest condolences to the family of the late MP over the unfortunate loss.

the same reason some send their children abroad to expensive schools when they could have gotten the same education here in Ghana. hypocrisy and double standards as always from Kwesi Pratt
Hmm! I know US Citizens also seeking medical treatment in Cuba and also Ghanaian flying back to Ghana to seek dental treatment.
Why must we always send our children to the UK to study when we have the University of Ghana, KNUST, UCC etc here in Ghana? Somebody should ask Mr Kwasi Pratt for me. After all his criticisms of the US and the UK, I never thought he will send his daughter to an expensive private University in UK to study. Mr Pratt, be consistent please.
VILLAGE GHANA
Ghana ! As usual we are at it again ? Sometimes I think we need white people to talk sense into our black skull all the time because when our fellow brother also with a black skull speak we feel he or she is one of us ( iiidiots ) so we dont take the person serious , like many have done here by insulting him Kwesi Pratt . Look , the guy is not saying you shouldnt go abroad to study and seek medical care if you can afford them . We must prepare our own hospitals and medical facilities to the standards of those we patronise abroad ...aaaabaaa Ghana . Do we need the former British ambassador Benjamin to laugh at us again ....hahahahah. Many of you are here insulting him because you believe he is aligned to the NDC but that is wrong .Whether you are NDC or NPP death doesnt discriminate , death is not selective so tell your governement whether NDC or NPP that we need accountability and efficiency . Use our taxes profitably and render proper accounts . That is what a good citizen does not insults and fooolishhhly supporting politician for common 50 ghc
This Pratt guy is ***barred word***.If you're sick and you can afford better medical care abroad why not.
IF SOMEBODY CAN BE TRANSFER FROM 37 TO KOLEBU SO DO SOMEONE BE TRANSFER TO ABROAD FOR TREATMENT. ARE THERE NO SCHOOLS IN GHANA AND WHY DID YOU SENT YOUR DAUGHTER TO ENGLAND TO STUDY? YOU BETTER SHUT YOUR MOUTH.
Answer this simple question too, Pratt. Why must we travel abroad every time we want schools for our children? Your hypoćrisy is nauseating.
The dynamics are complex, Kwesi. Its not easy to have a world-class hospital in Ghana. Are we ready to spend money on a world class building and maintain it like it deserves? Are we ready to buy world class medical equipment and service them/ prompt repairs? Are we ready to hire world-class physicians, nurses, pharmacist, and pay them world-class wages? I think we are not ready. Don't you think Kwesi Pratt will be the first to go on demonstration if world class neuro-surgeons based in Ghana a paid world-class salaries? I rest my case.
Because some of our hospitals are grave yards.......
