The Founder and Leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana, Kofi Akpaloo has been appointed by the minority parties to represent them on the Representation of the People’s Amendment Act (ROPAA) Consultative and Implementation Committee.
The minority parties made the decision today after a brief meeting with leadership of each political party.
Mrs Jean Mensa, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) last week inaugurated the Representation of the People’s Amendment Act (ROPAA) Consultative and Implementation Committee.
The nine-member Committee is made up of three representatives from the EC, the Peace Council, Civil Society Organisation, the Academia, one each from the ruling party and the main opposition party, while the minority parties were to nominate one representative.
The Committee is chaired by Dr Eric Bossman Asare, Deputy Chairman, EC, in-charge of Corporate Services with Mr Christian Owusu-Parry, EC Director of Administration as the Secretary.
Other Members of the Committee include Mrs Adwoa Abrefa Asuaman, EC Member; Mr John Boadu, General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP); and Dr Benjamin Kumbuor, a leading member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The rest are Reverend Dr Ernest Adu Gyamfi of the National Peace Council; Professor Ransford Gyampo of the University of Ghana, Dr Kojo Asante of the Centre for Democratic Development (CDD) Ghana and Kofi Akpaloo who represents the minority political parties.
The Committee shall commence sitting in January 2019 and shall present its final report to the Commission by May 31, 2019.
