General Secretary of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia claims the Electoral Commission (EC) boss Jean Mensa has issued a new decree which prohibits laughter during Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meetings.
According to him, it is now an offense to be in stitches at the office of the Electoral Commission (EC) no matter how funny the issue may be.
Narrating how the incident transpired in an interview on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, the NDC Chief Scribe said laughter is part of his nature, and so could not control himself when the EC boss cracked a joke at a recent IPAC meeting on Wednesday; but she surprisingly took offense.
“Madam Jean Mensa was cracking a joke and she was greatly offended when I laughed at her joke. Interestingly, some party representatives were also giggling and convulsed with laughter at what she was saying, but she only became offended at my action asking why I was laughing at her,” he recounted.
Mr Asiedu Nketiah revealed that the EC boss during the meeting said that the Commission had already taken a decision to use only the district offices of the Commission to conduct the limited registration for the district assembly elections. This, he said, was even against the earlier agreement to use all registration centres.
But perhaps, what really got Jean Mensa's blood boiling, according to the NDC General Secretary, was when he (Asiedu) questioned certain decisions the EC announced at the meeting, that instead of using monies allocated the electoral body for the maintenance of biometric machines, the EC rather intends to use the funds to purchase new machines.
“ . . she wants to change all the machines which were used for the registration and so she won’t use them for the limited registration . . . she claims the cost of maintenance is more expensive than the amount of monies her outfit will spend to procure new machines," he disclosed.
General Mosquito, as the NDC capo is affectionately called said, he subsequently sought to find out from the EC boss why her outfit would want to go contrary to the reasons for which Parliament gave its say-so for the release of the monies; purposely for maintenance of the machines for the limited registration in the district assembly elections, for an entirely different purpose.
His question seemed to have provoked the ire of Madam Jean Mensa who retorted that “she owes no political party an explanation about the finance of the Electoral Commission and the budget allocated to the Commission”.
“She spent 15 minutes explaining herself as if she was on a political platform . . . she added that the machines are like decorated wedding luggage which the groom has prepared for his bride and then when I laughed over this joke, she took offense,” he narrated.

The NDC has prioritized their attacks on certain individuals for their 2020 campaign. Though they have no message for Ghanaians, they know people are happy when some important persons are degraded. Then they feel they are even more important than those people. he people. The first on the list is President Akufo-Addo, followed by Dr. Bawumia, then EC Chair Jeane Mensah, her deputy, Dr. Bossman Asare, then any NPP personality they care about. Afterwards, they will take NPP national policies and promises singing above their voices that NPP could not fulfill their promises for the people. But ind you FREE SHS/DOUBLE TRACK will receive the greatest bashing. Meanwhile, they cannot bring out any policy they want to pursue. Wait and see if I am wrong on this. Only time will tell.
It looks to me this man loves this woman oh She is happily married wae Gen Mosquito.
ASIEDU NKETIAH GOES TO THE EC MEETINS WITH THE OFOSU AMPOFO PLAN OF MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT FOR THE EC TO OPERATE. THE EC WILL NOT SIT DOWN FOR THE NDC TO RUBBISH THEIR MEETINGS
PLEASE, ASSIEDU NKETIIA, YOU MUST GROW TO MATURE. YOU HAVE BEEN IN POLITICS FOR A LONG TIME YET YOU DON'T GROW TO MATURE. IT IS NOT EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENS AT MEETING THAT PEOPLE OF HIS SUPPOSED STATURE, GENERAL SECRETARY OF MAIN OPPOSITION PARTY CARRY IT TO PUBLIC. SUCH CHILDISHHH BEHAVIOR WOULD NOT EARN HIM ANY RESPECT AMONG HIS PEERS WHO SHALL ALWAYS ENTERTAIN HIS PRESENCE WITH UNCOMFORTABLE SUSPICION AND MISTRUST.
u can laugh but dont laugh follishily u r not a kid to distract at a meeting, this is what ELDER OFOSU AMPOFO planned, but u will fail
Its true, NDC does not have any message for Ghana; they have not outlined any policy which they will introduce as an alternative to the NPPs policies. Rather they have resulted insults and meaningless campaign slogans (i.e. bobolibobo), as if that is what will save Ghanaians or translate into economic gains. NDC please tell us what you will do differently from what you did which made you loose the last elections.
If this is your plan per Ofosu Ampofo's tape to wage war on the EC, then it will not wash no matter the lies you put out there. Of late you do not have any sensibbble message to tell Ghanaian apart from attacking the EC. We have less than two years to election 2020, but your party cannot tell Ghanaians any policy of yours apart from press conferences and lies.
