The Deputy Communication Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Yaw Preko, has backed the decision of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) that it will not reduce the producer price of cocoa as authorized by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
According to him, IMF can only advise Ghanaians on the economic issues but cannot compel them to do their bidding because Ghana is no longer under their dictate (IMF).”
In a statement copied to Peacefmonline.com, he reiterated that any attempt to heed the call of IMF would mark the beginning of the collapse of Ghana's cocoa industry.
“IMF proposal makes sense economically but the decision does not have to base on only the economic impact; we have to weigh both the social and the environmental impact that it may bring on the farmers,” he said in a statement.

The IMF is advising Ghana govt to reduce the prices at which we buy cocoa beans from farmers. Govt says this is the time to also support and encourage Cocoa Farmers for their contributions to Ghana all the years.
The difference is that because we are no longer under the IMF program, they can only advice us. They can't compel us.
If we were still under the IMF program, we wouldn't have been able to say no to them.
The IMF proposal makes sense economically but the decision does not have to base on only the economic impact but we have to weigh both the social and the environmental impact that may bring on the farmers.
Be very afraid of those who sold our sovereignty to the IMF.
Nana Yaw Preko
Deputy Communications Director, NPP

This time there is nothing like IMF 'conditionalities' Ghanaians are going to run the Economy to satisfy Ghanaians. See how our employment sector has been derailed. Unemployed Graduates and Youth all over the place now you want to reduce the producer price of Cocoa to affect our farmers? IMF YAA MUTU. WE ARE NOT GOING TO KOTOW. BYE BYE
The Dreadful and most wicked npp can not do away with the IMF, they are only trying to hide their corrupt dealing from the IMF, when the economy they are mismanaging goes down hill they will run to IMF again, soon
Ei, ei, ei IMF. "yeda moa ase'. 'Enye mmoa, NDc foa". Their EVIL deed any time that they come to government sent Ghana to IMF begging. NEVER AGAIN! The WICKED NDC want us to be begging for money all the time. NEVER!
Yes, that's why we have to fear the NPP. The Kuffour government went to IMF twice. What's your take on that one?
