The Financial Court 2 Division of the Accra High Court presided over by Justice Afia Serwa Asare Botwe has admitted Bawku Central MP Mahama Ayariga, to a self recognisance bail of GHS100,000 after pleading not guilty to charges of abuse of public office among other offences brought against him by the Special Prosecutor, Mr Martin Amidu.
The Court also admitted the remaining six accused persons including the Municipal Chief Executive for Bawku, Hajia Hawa Ninche to a bail of GHS50,000 with two sureties.
The court further directed the accused to leave their passports with the court registry.
Earlier in the day, the court dismissed an application filed by Mr Ayariga, in which he challenged the capacity of the Special Prosecutor to prosecute him on tax evasion charges.
The court directed that the plea of the seven accused persons including Mr Ayariga be taken.
Mr Amidu’s suit against Mr Ayariga was filed a few weeks ago. Five charges have been levelled against the lawmaker.
Mr Amidu alleged that Mr Ayariga abused the privileges he enjoyed as an MP by conniving with a private company to secure a loan, import three vehicles from Dubai at cheap prices and failed to pay duties on them under the guise that they were for official duty.

No need to politicized this issued on hand, all NDC past Government Officials should be prosecuted and jailed for causing financial lost to the State. In actual fact the NDC Party of made up of People who whenever they come to power their major agenda is to steal our tax payers' money take their Girl Friends to Dubai buying expensive Houses for these small small Girls at the expense of Ghana's economy. No wonder any time the NDC is leaving Office they leave nothing to ORDINARY Ghanaian but HUGE DEBT DEFICICTS hundreds of Ghana Cedis for us to pay. Any property own by these ***barred word*** should be confiscated by the State.
PLEASE DONT MAKE IT NPP/NDC ISSUE. GHANA FIRST. LET'S ALLOW THE JUDICIARY TO WORK. AT LEAST THE S.P IS DOING SOMETHING TO LIMIT CORRUPTION IN GHANA
Bias reportage, the court also strikes out three of the charges against Ayariga, such as tax evasion, trading in foreign currency without license etc. It means Martin Amidu does not even understand or know his limit or his mandate as a special prosecutor. NPP should also know that your MCE is part of those been prosecuted and not Ayariga alone.
he thinks martin amidu will do those their ***barred word***" tribally considered prosecution, he will certainly nail him
who is not making sense.
Does it mean Nana Addo, Bawumia and Jake and their lawyers also did not read before rushing to court about the election petition? Or their lawyers were also propaganda lawyers since their lost that case in court. Let's make sense in our comments.
we should not encourage corrupt practices like Ayariga's to thrive. we must follow due process to prosecute him and any other who falls foul to the law. i am waiting patiently for the Bus Branding Saga.
UNEDUCATED NPP MEMBERS WHO COMMENTED ON THIS ARTICLE DOESNT READ..WHICH PART OF THIS ARTICLE PRONOUNCED AYARIA GUILTY OF THE CHARGES LEVELED AGAINST HIM..
Ayariga! you see your real size. NDC lawyers are propagandist lawyers. They don't study the law before rushing to court. I wonder how their clients go through with their cases wit them. No wonder sometime past Rawlings hired the services of an NPP lawyer. If Sakande, an NPP parliamentarian for Bawku was sent to jail on the offence of dual citizenship, you could equally go to jail on your own offence. No one is above the law ***barred word***! next time you go see fire.
What goes round comes round. He should be jailed. He did same to MP Adamu Sakande and he was jailed. This happened to Bawku. Ayariga wasbehind Adamu Sakande's jailed and scrap the mp from him. Today the disgrace is coming to you. If you point one finger at your brother the rest point to yourself. You sent your brother to court after he has won an election that he is not a Ghanaian and the MP was scrap from him. today is your turn. Your passport is seized. I pray that they scrap that MP from you.
