The Member of Parliament for North Tongu constitution, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has spoken against Parliament's decision to construct a new chamber before the end of 2019.
The construction of the new parliamentary chamber was disclosed when members of the Parliamentary Service Board received a model for the proposed new Chamber last Friday.
According to the Speaker of Parliament, some allocation has been made towards the project by the government but additional funding is being sourced to make the project a reality.
However, Hon Ablakwa thinks it is a bad idea.
In a comment posted on his facebook page, he claims the amount of money involved can be used 'to beef up research staff of MPs.

I do not think Parliament needs a new Chamber Complex.
If the views of all Members of Parliament were sought, I would have suggested we used some of those resources to beef up research staff of MPs who must be paid well in order to attract good calibre and construct simple MPs offices across the country to improve interactions with constituents as we have in other jurisdictions, especially at a time most constituents say they do not get to see their MPs.
Respectfully, I do hope Mr. Speaker will take a second look at this.

You Ablakwa What have you achieved in your life except Politics and amassing wealth from politics. Tell me about one personnel project that you've built out of your sweat. Everything you've done and all the expensive flats was acquired by virtue of your political ambitions. Mind you I'm not jealous but reflect deeply and know that you are only an opportunist. If you were an MP in any other region you'll definitely be removed but Lo and Behold MP for life in your area
Is a new Chamber the most urgent facility in our dear nation? What about the fact that not all Accra is supplied with portable water, toilets, basic education, health facilities and many basics for human existence. This is very sad indeed; Parliamentary Chambers in many liberal democracies have maintained their original edifices - The UK, US, Germany, and others. I thought we recently renovated the Chamber to seat many more MPs and then furnished the Chamber with Chinese furniture and equipment! Mr. Speakers: you are a christian and the life of your Leader, the Lord Jesus Christ is that HE LIVED FOR OTHERS, US HUMAN BEINGS. PRIORITIES, PRIORITIES, PRIORITIES! No wonder we remain an underdeveloped nation!
