The government has announced plans to commence registration of both new and used mobile phones in the country in a bid to reduce cyber-crime and related illegal activities.
According to Communication Minister, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, a proposal to that effect has been presented to cabinet for approval by end of the year.
Speaking to Class News, Mrs Owusu-Ekuful said the measures when rolled out will go a long way to deter and reduce increasing cyber-crime.
The Ablekuma West lawmaker said: “For some of these devices that already have preloaded apps that have been recognised as malware those will be in that data base and so we will be able to recognise that these kinds of devices are bad for your country because they are collecting the information of users without their permission so then we can be able to block those devices and take them out of the system and educate people about the need to only use authorised devices.
She also added that the Ministry will soon open tender for interested firms to bid for the contract.

I don’t think she knows what she is talking about. She is confused. And I need to educate her
CONTRACT FOR WHERE ? DONT WORRY 'YATU MU KORAA AWIE DEDAW.SIKA DI BASAAAA
Madam, for your information, cybercrime keeps evolving all the time and is not limited to cell phone and Sims.. Better get gurus to let you know the new trend than chasing the wind with this your achaic ideas .. it's of no merit and value, just a waste of taxpayers money and time..
This exercise is indeed ***barred word*** since all sim cards are registered. What we should rather concern ourselves as a country is the issue of stolen phones. Mobile phones are becoming very expensive and so some guys have taken it as a business to steel and sell them very cheap. I bought a phone at ¢1,500 last week and it was stolen the same day. Most of the phones sold in head pans at circle and other places are stolen, this is what the ministry should help address.
Did I hear contract? Hahahahaahaa. Obi nkwan mu 33b3y3d3 d3d3d3d3d3( some one's soup is going to be sweeet). Simple ,nnp will do it and ndc will come and say wait ;another contract to register both sim and phone again including your great great grand grand email address or else ........Hehehehehehe. see their faces.
This is a ***barred word*** move! I don't see the use of this at all. You have registered sim cards, so track it from your firewall! What is wrong with us at all?
Good move, these are some of the things we need.
the registration of SIM cards started some time ago. why di we not sustain it? waste of time, money, and other resources. what is wrong with us, oh Ghana
