Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper has waded into the recent controversy of the case involving Gregory Afoko, brother of the former NPP National Chairman, Paul Afoko.
Gregory Afoko has been standing trial since 2015 as a suspect in the murder of Adams Mahama, late Upper East Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party.
A High court presided over by Justice George Baudi granted Gregory Afoko bail in March 2019 in the sum of ¢500,000 with two sureties after his lawyers applied.
However, the bail ruling was overturned by an Accra High Court presided over by Justice Merley Afua Wood.
Prior to this after the court granted Gregory Afoko bail, he was still in custody until it was overturned.
Some Civil society groups feel if indeed all the bail conditions were met by the suspect yet he was not released then there is a travesty of justice and an abuse of his rights.
OccupyGhana in a statement is seeking punishment for officers who flouted Afoko’s bail order.
Part of the statement read, “Ordinarily, we would hesitate to comment on a matter that is pending in court. But we must be concerned when there is any appearance of gross and blatant violations of the constitutional rights of a citizen.”
When the issue was tabled for discussion on Wednesday's edition of Peace FM's morning show 'Kokrokoo', Kweku Baako noted that per his checks, the bail conditions were not fully met.
“Relative to the fulfillment of the bail condition, there is a gap and if you have not fulfilled the bail conditions, then what is the noise about?" he asked.

Kweku baako's mouth is for sale, and he has sold it to some political leaders and some individuals.

I think Adams family should consult native doctor and forget about the so call LAW. And burn those responsible for the killing the young man
I get sick when I read all those comments. How I wish all of us can reason like TONGA. How can we develop as a nation if majority of the people reason like what i'm reading
I am not happy with all these Political talk on these issue. It can happen to anyone, So people should be mindful of what they say today. How do you treat people like this in this country and very shocked from Kwaku Baako who have sometime been a victim to this thing during Rawlings Regime. I am very sad for politicizing everything in our Nation even the so called Rule of Law Family.
hypocrite. if the conditions were not met what is the sense from the police going to another court to reverse the bail that is not.
Patrick is not blind young man or who ever you are.. Please Kindly quote which of our Laws endows civil disobedience, besides the issue we are talking about most of the MPs from both size of the house were against the building of the chamber.. He is lucky he was left of the hook..The last time somebody threatens the Judges he was put into Jail.. What kind of society do we want to build for this country..Its very sad..Like somebody is saying Kweku Baaku is a weed smoker.. Please lets address issues and stop the insults..
Thanx for this perfect explanation you have started .
@Omar, your understanding of the law is too shallow. Afoko has NOT been discharged by any court in Ghana. What the court did was for him to be granted BAIL. The granting of bail always has conditions attached. Where the conditions are not met, the Registrar of the Court will not write to the the Police or the Prison authorities for the culprit to be released on BAIL.I am highly disappointed with Occupy Ghana. Did they ever find out from the Registrar of the Court why the culprit was still being held in custody. I am sure the judge who revoked the first bail has done the necessary checks and if the bail terms cannot be met after sometime, there is the need for revocation. Everybody in the Chain matters. Due diligence is required. The mere mention of bail does not mean automatic release from custody. THE CONDITIONS MUST BE MET AND CERTIFIED BY A COURT REGISTRAR.
He allegedly murdered a person by pouring acid on the decedent. What is all this ***barred word*** about bail refusal by a judge based on the facts before the court. There is too much political football on every issue in Ghana these days. At least the SOB is still living.
