It is quite evident that the political landscape in Ghana has in one way or the other been tainted with insults and demoralizing diction creating worry for successive generations.
This phenomenon regardless of its demerits has been used as a political tool for some politicians and political parties in the country over the years.
In this regard, Professor Kwame Karikari has named former President Jerry John Rawlings and sitting President Nana Akufo-Addo as the biggest victims of politics of insults in the fourth republic.
According to the former Executive Director of the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), successive presidents the country has produced have taken turns being victims of political insults but former President Rawlings and President Akufo-Addo have suffered the worst forms of vilification in the political landscape.
“In my estimation, the two people who have fallen victim to this kind of thing most profoundly are Jerry John Rawlings and Nana Akufo-Addo. They have been the biggest victims of political insults,” he emphatically stated.
He was however quick to acknowledge Ghana’s first president Dr. Kwame Nkrumah as the worst victim of such political attacks of all time.
“…Of course the biggest politically insulted personality has always been Kwame Nkrumah, but in our time these two people have had the worst of the political communication that has been in the airwaves for some time.”
In trying to provide an explanation to the thriving phenomenon of political insults he said, “the birth of political radio and the introduction of serial callers, and this is also accentuated by new entrants; political investors in media entering into the new media we have, that is radio and television. And therefore using these media to do propaganda. Which is dominated by personality attacks and insults”.
Party press is dead
Prof Karikari while recounting memories on the rise of new forms of journalism and the diminishing relevance of pro-government and partisan news outlets over the past years emphatically stated that pro-government and partisan press is dead.
In his estimation, even though several efforts are being made by some persons to revive some partisan news outlets, the birth of other forms of journalism which have made quite significant impacts have overridden their impacts.
“…first of all, there is the death of the party press…I think that essentially, the party press is dead...” He stated.
Professor Kwame Karikari was speaking at the maiden GJA 70th anniversary public lecture on the theme, ‘Journalism yesterday and today: Repositioning media with technology’.

Politics of insult is originated from the ndc. They are such uncul*tured and un*couth most brought up from filthy environment so their MI ds are polluted with toxins and all they do is insults instead of sharing ideas. Their elders are the most culprits and if your father is a drunkard how do you advise someone's father to stop drinking. Ndc hate and envy npp to the extent they forget ndc is a political party that has to roll out visions and policies instead resort to insults out of who the person is. Ndc hate Nana Akufo Addo because if who he us and where he is coming from, his childhood privilege and everything that comes with it and that is how black man is hat*e, env*iness, jealousy and blackmailing especially privileged people from good homes. They h*ate President Rawlings for speaking his mind which turns to go against them, they wish him to divorce his wife because she is a threat to them forgetting the existence and formation of the ndc rested on her. 2ndly former president Rawlings PNDC/NDC is one of his woes in Ghana if there hasn't been P/ndc the era of the AFRC would have been gone since that was a military take over military government and the excesses could have been forgiving! I think he might have regretted forming the ndc because it hasn't helped the country in any form or shape but they come to create loo000*00t and share the resources of the country it has created a lot of kriminals in Ghana why because the kriminals feel safe in the ndc because of their tendencies of violence! the best Ghanaians can do to get their country back is to eliminate ndc by never giving them the chance to power! ndc is not the first political party but of all the krime rate was very minimal that one could leave the door open and sleep outside and nobody can come in, during those period ECOWAS nationals were still coming in but they dI'd no harm to anyone because violence wasn't the Ghanaian way of life after P/ndc the influx of ECOWAS nationals became worst because ndc needed votes to stay in power and that wasn't happening from Ghanaians and that was the Genesis of armed robbery, kinappings and all sorts of krimes in our country and if we don't do away with the ndc Ghana will never know peace.Ndc has allowed ECOWAS nationals to infiltrate our politics with even some being mps and ministers when the constitution doesn't say so and that never happened during the 1st, 2nd and 3rd republics none of our leaders allowed foreigners to do politics in Ghana but now Collins Dauda a Nigerian can insite a religion and Ghanaians from the North against other Ghanaians this is how far ndc is sending us if we don't stop them and most regrettable this man didn't have no remorse but justified his actions and said he is happy it has gone viral and this is how st*upid some of our chiefs are to entertain such people on their lands. If chieftaincy is not given to the rightful owners this is what happens. Our ancestors didn't acquire our lands for us to share with foreigners for them to become royals on us! Peaceful foreigners must know the role they play to move their adopted countries forward but not violence.
