Former President John Mahama has said the level of corruption in Ghana is discouraging diasporans from investing back home.
“Working and living abroad, many of you in countries where corruption has been minimised or completely eradicated, Ghanaian Diasporians who come home to invest are unnerved when they find themselves right from our airport and seaports, having to pay bribes and tips to staff who are paid to provide the services they require.
“This has the effect of demoralising and dampening the spirit of the potential diaspora investor,” Mr Mahama said during a speech to mark the 40th-anniversary of the Ghana Union UK in London.
Mr Mahama said several institutions have been established and laws enacted to aid the fight against corruption, however, “it takes leadership and commitment to win the fight against corruption”.
“As a nation, we have a collective duty to fight and win this battle together,” he admonished.
Mr Mahama also called for an improvement in the work ethos back home in Ghana to match the standards in other parts of the world.
He said: “I have also heard harrowing stories from diaspora investors about our work ethic and attitudes back home”.

Eeeii!!! hmmmmm, so the man who rose to power from the scratch want to absolve himself from the corruption perception which is so endemic in the society. If indeed he did or performed well during his presidency why then the matra of coming to correct the wrongs he did when given the chance? His own people want him to dissipate some of the amount he amassed that was why they chose him as a flag bearer.
This man was clueless when he was in office, still clueless as ex president. He just doesn't have the mental capacity to be president on any land. He doesn't spew intelligence , talks any how and he is so lazy mentally that after three years of loosing power, he still have not formed a thinking team to propagate alternatives of things he perceive to be out of order. He should be drumming his vision and aspiration for Ghana for at least two years now but as visionless as he is, he is engage in class 1 politics of 1990's of poking one hole and screaming gutter. No vision, no plan, no nothing and talk and noise and you want to be a leader again? Akuffo Addo at his age, had a vision and drummed it for years and when he had the chance, he quickly implemented them, I was not expecting something that has not been done before to run smoothly, but boy, it sets a clear path between the visionary and the visionless. Things might be hard but it is for our better tomorrow. All you know is talk and comic. During your turner, you directed all public offices to pay for their own electricity, water etc, how were you expecting them to operate. Did you ever conduct a research to find out about the impact and the long term effect on corruption. Well that action led to urban roads given selling contracts to non contractors just because they needed the money to run the offices. This was happening across all institutions. It hurt me when he pretends he was not aware of how Ghana was rotting under him. And today he has the courage to pick minor instances of events and claim the worse of it. ***barred word*** being.
Eiiii JDM, when did you realize that there is corruption in the country preventing foreign investment, You are the last person to show your face when corruption is mentioned. Every Ghanaian knows you are the most corruptt President Ghanaians have ever seen, from military era till date. You began your corruption from Prof Mills time as Vice President. Entertainment alone for the Presidential jet was half of its price. Don’t dream we have lost sight of you, your corruption deals are so fresh on our minds.
wo so ka bi. JDM wo so ka bi just like one of my tutors in secondary school will ask the non-particpants in the class - wo so ka bi na wo tua fees. JDM wo so ka bi na wo aye koom akye dodo. No wonder fewer investors wanted to invest in GH during a particular recent times.
This man should not talk about corruption at all What happen to ,SADA,GYEDA,RLG,SNITT BOSS SSNIT OBS system,BUS BRANDING ,MASLOC Saga,OPUNI of COCOA BORD ,WAYOMI,Venture Capital case, SSNIT OBS system..Many more Today Mahama is talking about corruption mmmmmmmmmm
As for Mahama is making a big ***barred word*** of himself internationally. Here is man who took car, supervised Wooyeme create, loot, and share. Guinea fowls corruption, gave almost all of Ghanaians Bauxite to his brother and he has the nerve and balls to talk of corruption. The more talks the more he makes Ghanaians grow angry and mad. Mahama should be the last person Ghanaians should expect to hear talk about corruption. Even in opposition and on the international stage you are still incompetent.
you are the last person ghanaians expect to hear talk about corruption, an epitome of corruption
Mahama Mahama, when did you realise there is corruption in Ghana. After acquiring what you want you now go around to tell us this. HMMMMMMM. Wonders will never ends.
Is someone using Mahama's image for this headline or what,? Cause if this is mahama talking then he is the biggest hypocrite in Ghana. You presided over dumsor for 4yrs. Wayomi money, asofoton, SADA GYIBA, BUSS branding. Aircraft and Ford saga and have no shame to talk about corruption. Africa Paaaaaaa de
Really!!! Mr Mahama Really!!! Were you listening to yourself when you were talking as adviced by former Pres Rawlings. If you were you would not have made this statement.
