The government of Ghana has said the country remains intact despite the declaration of independence for the Volta Region by separatist group Homeland Study Group Foundation (HSGF) on Saturday, 16 November 2019.
The group independence declaration of the region as Western Togoland, was made by the group’s 85-year-old leader, Mr Charles Kudzordzi also known as Papavi Hogbedetor, at a public gathering of its adherents at the premises of the former Unity Rural Bank which is a few metres away from the Ho Police Training school.
The secessionist declaration was broadcast live on Facebook.
The group, which has had several brushes with the law on the matter in the past, rode on the recent omission of the Volta Region from the list of critical roads to be constructed in 2020 when the Finance Minister presented next year’s budget to Parliament, in declaring the region independent.
Speaking in his native Ewe language in reference to the gaffe, which was corrected by Mr Ken Ofori-Atta on Friday, which the government has subsequently described as a “genuine inadvertent mistake” which resulted from a “printing error”, Papa Hogbedetor wondered if it was ever possible for parents to forget their children.
“They forgot about us because we’re not their children”, he said, declaring to cheers from his followers: “From the midnight of 16 November 2019 entering into Sunday, 17 November 2019, we’re now Western Togoland state”.
The government, in a statement signed by Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, however, said it “takes note of the activities” of the foundation, adding: “Ghana remains a sovereign state which has not ceded any part of its territory to any person or group of persons.”
“While admonishing the public to disregard the claims by the group, the general public is hereby informed that state security agencies are taking the necessary measures to ensure that persons involved with the illegal act, are dealt with in accordance with the law.
“Ghana’s security agencies remain in firm charge of Ghana’s territory and encourage all persons to continue with their daily activities normally”, the statement said.

If Ewes are becoming furious or angry, it depends on those comments some people used to make about them especially Madam Ursula Akoful Addo that Ewes are inward lookers and many more. So please let us sit down and find out what is their problems before they wanted to separate.
You this guy B.FuriousShs do you understand the meaning of Togo before saying that. If you do not know please, just ask your parents before making any comments, please
The AG must wake up and ensure the law takes its full course because these Ewe togolanders are bent on fermenting trouble and mayhem under the guise of freedom of expression. If they want freedom then the best place is Togo not Ghana.
I will urge the government of Ghana to use the same strategy used by the French before exiting the recalcitrant African countries. 1. Any schools built by the government of Ghana in this area must be bulldozed to the ground; 2. Any hospitals , clinics, health institutions built by the government of Ghana must be bulldozed to the ground; 3. Any roads, streets lights, etc built by the government of Ghana must be destroyed; Any electricity lines, water supply built by the government of Ghana must be destroyed; 4. Any police service, ambulance service, and fire service created and operated by the government of Ghana must stop immediately and all the infrastructure removed forthwith; 5. Any person from that part of Ghana who is living in any part of Ghana must be forcibly removed and sent back to that land; 6. Any money spent by the government of Ghana on this area since 1884 must be retrieved from them with interest; 7. No person from that group should ever be allowed to travel through the borders of Ghana including airports without appropriate passport and paying for visas in the normal way.
What at all are we getting from that part of the country. Except plotting of coup de tats and killing of people for rituals as well as taking peoples position with juju. Why not jail them with treason charge? Apuuuuuuuuuu
You arrest and release these 111diots why won't they declare independence again?
