Ranking Member on Parliament’s Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee, Inusah Fuseini, believes President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo could face impeachment elsewhere for his decision to suspend the December 17th referendum.
“In other jurisdictions, the president could have face impeachment,” he said on NEAT FM’s morning show ‘Ghana Montie’.
He explained that, what the President did was to seek to control and direct affairs of the Electoral Commission – a phenomenon he described as “unconstitutional”.
According to him, any decision to amend Article 55(3) lies in the power of the people of Ghana and not the President, adding that the "Minority MPs are monitoring the development" and will find possible ways of dealing with the matter.
“There are many options and we are still studying the matter. At the appropriate time, we will settle on an option to deal with the President’s action.”
“The decision to amend Article 55(3) is a decision vested in the people of the country. For the purposes of the referendum, the people of this country, including the President, the opposition, the Members of Parliament and my friends at the trotro station who are registered voters have that power,” he explained.

Cancellation of December 17th Referendum
The President on Sunday, December 1, 2019, cancelled the December, 17th Referendum due to what he called a lack of durable consensus on the matter.
He also directed the Local Government Minister to withdraw from Parliament the Article 243 (1) Bill which meant to amend the Constitution to allow Ghanaians to vote for Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives which had subsequently been done.

YOU SEE MR. FUSEINI, THE NPP AND ITS GOVERNMENT UNDER CHIEF TREASONABLE EXECUTIVE OFFICER NANA ADDO DANKWAH AKUFO ADDO KNOW NOTHING ABOUT CONSTITUTIONAL RULE AND SO EVERY THING THEY DO IS "BUGABUGA". THEY GET CONFUSED WHEN YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT RULING WITH THE CONSTITUTION. I THINK WE NEED TO SEND THEM (NPP + NANA) TO THE NDC SOCIALIST SCHOOL AND TEACH THEM WHAT IS CONSTITUTIONAL GOVERNANCE FOR AT LEAST ONE DECADE TO STOP THE DECAY IN THEM.
two full pages of comments and no one had the cense to notice that so much money has been spent on this misadventure. in a real country, someone would pay but then this the country in which a feeble medical doctor can overthrow an entire army with nothing more than kitchen knives. this a country so scared of octogenarians and nonagenarians speaking their mind that a swat team has to be sent after them.
Ah so these characters are getting away with double salary and Martin Amidu is chopping free salary not doing foko once in a while he will issue a statement to blame everybody but not himself.
woaaaaa look at his face
Nansis, listen to who is speaking, double salary taker.
In other jurisdictions,Ndc will not exist so there will be no problem to be solved. Ghana without Ndc will be the best country ever.
WHAT ARE YOU SAYING ? YOU BULL WE KNOW YOU AS MR DOUBLE MONEY TAKER. YOU ARE A ***barred word*** ***barred word*** AND MORE THAT ROBBER. GO AND PAY OUR MONEY BEFORE YOU COME TO THE PUBLIC. NO WOUNDER. INSTEAD FOR YOU TO PLANT YAWS FOR US, BECAUSE OF DR NKRUAMA, YOU ARE SPEAKING ENGLISH WITH US. AT ANY TIME YOU COME TO THE MEDIA, WE WILL ATTACK YOU. GO AND SLEEP WITH YOU NDC MENTALITY.
Stop all these UNNECESSARY propaganda and tell Ghanaians WHAT NDC will do if in the UNLIKELY situation, they (NDC) win power in 2020! NO IDEAS? SAD!
I WONDERED WHEN THE MOTION TO ELECT MMDCEs WAS WITHDRAWN TOGETHER WITH THE REFERENDUM FOR POLITICAL PARTIES TO BE INVOLVED IN THE LOCAL LEVEL ELECTIONS. THE TWO ISSUES ARE NOT THE SAME. ONE CAN BE DONE WITHOUT THE OTHER. WHAT THEN IS THE WISDOM TO ABORT THE TWO? UPON DEEP REFLECTION I HAVE NOW COME TO UNDERSTAND THE PRESIDENT. THOUGH THE TWO PROVISIONS ARE NOT THE SAME AND ONE DOES NOT NEED TO DEPEND ON THE OTHER, LIKE THE REFERENDUM, THE NPP GOVERNMENT STILL NEED NDC MPs TO SUPPORT THE MOTION FOR THE AMENDMENT. THE DECEPTION OF NDC TO ATTACK AND DESTROY THE TARGET OF THE REFERENDUM MAKES IT DIFFICULT FOR THEM TO BE TRUSTED TO SUPPORT THE MOTION FOR MMDCEs ELECTIONS. THE GOVERNMENT CAN NO LONGER RELY ON NDC TO SUPPORT THE MOTION FOR THE AMENDMENT TO ELECT THE MMDEs. THE SABOTAGE OF THE REFERENDUM REVEALS MUCH ABOUT NDC. THEY CARE LITTLE FOR TRUE DEMOCRACY. THE BETRAYAL CLEARLY DEMONSTRATES THAT NDC DID NOT EVEN LIKE THE CREATION OF SIX NEW REGIONS. THEY PRETENDED TO SUPPORT IT JUST FOR POLITICAL CONVENIENCE. THEY COULD NOT OPENLY OBJECT TO THE NEW REGIONS BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT RESIST THE EXCITEMENT OF THE PEOPLE TO GET THEIR REGIONS. IF GHANAIANS TRULY WANT TO ELECT THEIR MMDCES THEN THEY SHOULD VOTE NDC OUT OF PARLIAMENT IN 2020. BY THE CONSTITUTION WE NEED MORE THAN TWO-THIRDS MAJORITY OF PARLIAMENT TO PASS THE MOTION FOR MMDCEs ELECTION. GNANIANS IN 2020 ELECTIONS SHOULD VOTE TO ELECT MORE NPP MPs IN 2020 SO THAT THEY CAN GET THE NEEDED OVERWHELMING MAJORITY TO PASS SUCH AMENDMENT WITHOUT RELYING ON NDC SUPPORT. NDC CAN NEVER BE TRUSTED. THEY DO POLITICS WITH EVERYTHING WITHOUT THINKING ABOUT WHAT IS GOOD FOR THE NATION. YES WE NEED THEM IN PARLIAMENT TO MAKE THE USUAL NOISEEEE BUT WE MUST KEEP THEIR NUMBER LOW TO KEEP THE NATION MOVING FORWARD.
Disappointing comments from Mr Fuseini. Wow, is he dreaming or not thinking? I now understand why these guys are not fit to govern Ghana again. Inusah, why not stage a coup as you see no way of winning 2020 elections? You insulting our intelligence
