Some supporters of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) burnt tyres to register their displeasure over the move by the Electoral Commission (EC) to compile a new voters’ register for the upcoming general elections, this year.
They marched through the Central Business District of Tamale chanting ‘war songs’ against the compilation of a new voters’ register by the EC.
The NDC supporters burnt tyres at Choggu hilltop, water works area, sharp corner area and other locations throughout their demonstration.
The demonstration dubbed: “TIKUSAHI Demonstration” was organized by the Inter-Party Resistance against a New Voters’ Register (IPRNA) in Tamale in the Northern Region.
Addressing party supporters at the Jubilee Park in Tamale, the Member of Parliament for Tamale South Constituency, Haruna Iddrisu, said the party would resist any attempt by the EC to compile the new voters’ register.
According to him, the EC should use same register that was used to elect President Akufo-Addo in the 2016 general elections. He argued that the current voters’ register is credible, adding that the EC would not have used it for the referendum to create new regions and also for the election of assembly members.
Some NDC bigwigs who graced the demonstration included the National Chairman, Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, Sam George, Inusah Fuseini, Alhassan Suhuyini and others.
The EC has indicated plans to acquire a new Biometric Voter Management Solution to enable the commission to compile a new voters’ register ahead of the 2020 General Elections.

Well folks anytime you hear ndc shouting NO then the subject is YES in this case just like ndc walk away from parliament on NIA Card and went in their numbers to register, the same thing they will do to ask all their demonstrators to go and register when the EC open for new voters registration. Don't let us mind them, ndc is irrelevant now just an attention seeker and that is why I decree like the Jews said NEVER AGAIN TO NDC. NDC YAAMUTU, NDC YAAMUTU, NDC YAAMUTU, NDC YAAMUTU, NDC YAAMUTU, NDC YAAMUTU, NDC YAAMUTU, NDC YAAMUTU, NDC YAAMUTU, NDC YAAMUTU, NDC YAAMUTU, NDC YAAMUTU, NDC YAAMUTU
@Dan You are damned right, that's Ofosu ampofo and their NDC plans to torment Jean Mensah and make Govt look bad. All on his leaked, hey just implementing them!
A party that simply refuses to use it's head. Otherwise what for goodness sake is NEGATIVE about compiling an improved voter register, if not their own shadows chasing them and giving them sleepless nights of a so called rigging? I just checked my last voter ID and the date it was done was 29th March 2012 - when elections were held in December! What is this story then about an election year pipe drewm? Why is it so difficult for the NDC to use its head? Their best is to intellectualize ido.ocy as someone has said. What a party!!!
NDC, heed the advice of your election guru, Bem Ephson. He says go to court. I know the EC will compile a new register, come rain or shine. And what can the NDC do about it? What you are doing is just a ploy to gather your supporters and tell them to go and register. You did it for Ghana Card and you want to do same here. Your tricks will not wash. Be wise and think about this country for once.
They can burn their headquarters who cares? but they should be very careful not to disturb the country else they will runaway from Ghana to neighboring countries as refugees ! Ghana will not allow ndc to dictate her future! ndc has an option to stay away from the registration else they will live to regret! that nonse*nse must stop in Ghana, this nkurasesem must stop in our country this agyi*mise must stop in Ghana. It's either they cooperate to register or they stay away peacefully because ndc will never have their way in Ghana! they should try any ***barred word****ity in Ghana and will be shocked to see real brave znd courageous men and women in Ghana who are bent to defend and protect Ghana ! nkwase*afuo! the police should have arrested those vagab*onds who burnt the tires don't give them room to foo00*00l around .
OFOSU - Ampofo hmmmm
