General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has descended strongly on the Nana Addo led government over the arrest of the party’s National Communications Officer, Samuel Gyamfi.
According to him, no amount of intimidation can break their resolve or distract them from the pursuit of doing what is right and letting Ghanaians know the happenings in the country.
Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' programme, a clearly livid Asiedu Nketiah vowed to resist any attempt by the state to cow the NDC into submission, saying the opposition party has rather been galvanized into action by the oppressive acts being perpetrated by the current administration.
"What happened yesterday (arrest of Sammy Gyamfi) was needless and sheer show of power that will not break us as a political party . . . we are ready for more arrest and persecution if that is what will relieve Ghanaians from the oppressor’s rule.
" . . It has rather dented the image of President Akufo-Addo who is touted as a freedom fighter and a human rights activist," he fumed.
National Communications Officer of the NDC was picked up by officials of the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on Monday morning.
The "arrest" occurred minutes after he had participated in a live studio discussion on UTV's "Adekye Nsroma" morning show.
Sammy Gyamfi was whisked away by some plain-clothed security officers in a white unmarked pick-up vehicle with license plate VR 4870 - 12.
Just as the outspoken NDC stalwart was making his way to board his vehicle after the show had ended, the CID officers suddenly surfaced, produced a warrant and in a flash, picked him away.
Some high profile lawyers and personalities of the opposition party thronged to the Headquarters of the CID, following news of the arrest of the party’s National Communications Officer.

NDC seems to underrate the intelligence of Ghanaians. The good people of Ghana are very aware of the issue the NDC picked up on the IEA with respect to Presidential elections' debates. Hence, if Gen.Sec. of the NDC bases, his prejudice against the good EC-Boss on her stance to produce a new register only goes to reaffirm that NDC as a political party disapproves of fair level grounds for competition. Much so does the NDC feel uncomfortable when he has not the chance to chose the referee.
Asiedu Nketia ne gy*mii. He can talk all that he wants. NDC will lose. He should go and manufacture blocks at Bui. Such a disgraceful and us*less Gen Sec.
General Mosque if you do anything to sabotage the peace of the country. You will be arrested despite your NDC General Secretary.
General mosquito stop the uugly noise and advice your party members to go and register when the day comes. Is it the first time the EC is going prepare a new voter register in this country? You are not showing good leadership at all
Eeeeeiii Asiedu Nkantia 'waye twaaaan se fofuo'
PNDC and its former leader was a dictator but we survived under your leadership....

The NDC and its followers think they OWN Ghana and that at all cost they have to rule the country. WHY?. The NDC are always agitated in opposition.
when you are about losing election or going into oposition, you start multreating your oponents badly.
Asiedu Nketiah, you and your NDC members have been threatening the whole country since the issue of the new voters register came up. I think the government has been too lenient with your actions, insults and threats of innocent Ghanaians. You behave as if you have the monopoly over stuuuuuupidity in this country. I pray you will be arranged in a very nice way to stop all these noises.
