The Minister for Information Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has taken a swipe at former President John Dramani Mahama over his recent criticism of the newly distributed 307 ambulances.
Mr Mahama in a media interaction described the procurement and distribution of the 307 new ambulances as a “misplaced priority”.
The Former President pointed out that government should prioritize building hospitals so that when an accident happens, patient will have good facilities to be treated and not to distribute ambulances.
However, the Information Minister at a news briefing in Accra on Friday said Mr. Mahama’s comments were unfortunate and a deliberate attempt to “score political points”.
“any investment in healthcare infrastructure or in pre-hospital emergency care is good news for Ghanaians and nobody should be deliberately ‘criticizing’ it” he said.
He went on to emphasize that the former president should be more concerned about contributing to the conversation of how to maintain these ambulances, how people are going to pay for the services of the ambulances and how to make sure sure prank calls are reduced”.
Mr. Nkrumah said the former President is being hypocritical especially when he equally commissioned projects such as acquisition of drillers and distribution of headpans to head porters during his administration .
Health care delivery has been an issue of huge concern in the country recently.
The Mahama-led NDC government procured about 600 ambulances with only 30 of those arriving in the country.
Subsequent assessment on the 30 ambulances revealed that these ambulances were not “fit for purpose”.
However, the NPP government as part of its pre-election commitments to improve Health Care Services in the country procured 307 ambulances to augment the work of the National Ambulance Service.
In addition to the 307 ambulances, 300 Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Drivers and support staff along with 30 dispatchers were also deployed.

Why can't the ndc keep their mouth shut. What is wrong with a government keeping to its promises to the good people of Ghana and presenting the numerous ambulances in an eventful and glorious way to the nation. The ndc did absolutely nothing for this country yet. JM give us a break.
If Ambulances are not important for the nation, how about Guinea fowls/ nkonf3m, your analysis even shows you are incompetentt . Where is your manifesto JM?
Minister don't mind these confused blockheads who find themselves in a party headed by the most irresponsible and childish leader. Given another time, we shall make all the noise to commission additional set of ambulances because we know these people at the other side could claim that the NPP never bought ambulances to augment the existing fleet. Even HEAD PANS were valuable enough to be commissioned by a president. How many ambulances did the NDC procure??????? Zero!
@Kwaku Aidoo, your comments are all lies just like your frog eyed and coconut head minister of lies, oppong nkrumah
@Fii what do you get for insult. Look all over the world how hard working politicians aged quickly. Did you see the picture of the minister before he entered into politics? It is still fresh in our minds how Mahama was given cars and houses to the Akua Donkors just for saying that Mahama is handsome. I wonder most of the ndcs supporters can even think of the comeback of Mahama. Let us put politics aside. Can anyone tell Ghanaians why we are missing Mahama? Let us have a matured discussion devoid of insults.
Anytime I see this gentleman in pictures I doubt if he is under 40years. He looks so old for someone in his 30s. When you line him up with the likes of abu jinapor and co he looks like their grandfather. Nana addo has burdened him so much and he is aging so fast. He is not a woman I would have advised him to see Jean Mensa for some pancake to fill his wrinkles.
