A Political Analyst, Mr. Yaw Asani Tano, has decried the penchant by ruling political parties to organize huge assemblies and town hall meetings at the expense of the state just to tout their achievements.
He wonders why a government in power some just a few months to a general election, hold a press conference mainly to publicize its achieved promises made before coming into power.
To Asani Tano, who is a former Deputy General Secretary of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), it a wasteful exercise just to enrich the pockets of party activists.
"..why don’t they leave the citizens to judge the works of the ruling government if you believe you are doing and taking the perfect decisions as expected by citizens...This programme has just been created by political parties to create funds into party officials pocket, causing financial loss to the state,” he stated.
Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on Tuesday, February 11, 2020, addressed Ghanaians at a Town hall meeting in Kumasi under the theme; "Demonstrating Fulfillment Of Our Promises".
Using a combination of graphs, tables and text, he supported his claim that the Akufo-Addo administration has largely delivered on its manifesto promises, especially on the economy.
“The data shows that Ghana’s macroeconomic fundamentals are strong. Indeed, the strength of Ghana’s fundamentals was confirmed recently by Moody’s Ratings which changed Ghana’s sovereign ratings from B3 with a stable outlook to B3 with a positive outlook. This is unprecedented for an election year,” Vice President Bawumia pointed out.
He also touched on major feats that the government has achieved since its inception, and among other things, noted that Ghana's GDP growth over three years has made the nation one of the fastest economies in the world.
According to the Vice President, about 78% of the current government's manifesto has been fulfilled.
“Notwithstanding the difficult economy we inherited, we had to get on with it and start to fix the problems. We were cognizant of our many promises. In fact, at the direction of President Akufo-Addo, we put together a dashboard of manifesto promises immediately after we were declared winners of the 2016 election, and before we were sworn into office. We have been using this dashboard to track our manifesto promises since,” the Vice President stated.
Speaking on UTV’s ‘Adekye Nsroma’ political discussion segment, the CPP former Deputy General Secretary, whiles challenging Dr Bawumia's assertion that the NPP has achieved 78% of its electoral promises, also cautioned against the tendency by the Veep to launch a verbal attack against the previous government, anytime he takes the podium.
“..it has never happened in the history of this country that a political party, including the ruling government can achieve seventy eight percent [78%] of its promises made...He is doing it one too many, we expect him to by now as the Vice President of the state, address challenges he criticized the previous government of to transform the economic situation of this country through tangible means than making reference to them when he now holds the mantle,” he cautioned.

@Bomber, master we are all leaving in Ghana and we will see what ever is going on. It is not the duty of government to tell us what it has done or tell us lies. The only thing they bost about is their rotten free SHS. Remember free things are cheap. What is the relevant of half bake educated SHS who cannot spell their names.
Please dont wast your time and call this man intellectual.. Why they want government to keep quite and allow this deceitful liars to propagate lies about the economy..Some Ghanaians have short memory.. May be I need to remind them.. Dumsor was swallowing us, and we were still paying more for electricity.. Nurses were sitting at home after finishing school,Allowance too cancelled, teachers allowance cancelled.. Today our children are enjoying free SHS..We are no longer under the conditions of IMF and Government has employed alot of people who have been sitting down since 2011.. We have seen what is happening at the Motorway.. We have also seen the various expansion works at the various secondary schools and NABCO etc.. Somebody has to tell the story.. Bawumia cannot brain wash anybody unless u r blind or dumped.. The evidence is there to see.. The tremendous improvement in our ports..
The positive effect derived from economic indicators generally takes time to mature and thus triggers relief very slowly in the pocket of the people. In the absence of the immediate benefits, a good Government embarks on social interventions, ie FHS, NHIS, etc. Further, the positive indicators if sustained for a period of time give investors confidence in the economy and the economy becomes creditworthy. Hence, the oversubscription of the Eurobonds didn't just fall from heaven. If all these, in turn, are directed into industrialization, production of goods and services and export value-added goods then we will be on the right path for development and economic welfare. It is only then that our cedi will be strong by virtue of it being backed by the production of goods and services; as a result, Ghana can develop beyond aid. Indeed, the present administration is doing very well in terms of Governance and economic management. Therefore, it is solemnly imperative that the NDC is parked in the opposition for at least 20 good years.
We the Customers of Fund Management Companies don't care a hoot about statistics and whether they are going up or down, increasing or decreasing. All we want is for our monies to paid back in full. Until then, the NPP should forget about statistics. For some of us, payment of our monies is the deciding factor of where our votes will go
IF THIS NPP GOVERNMENT IS RETAINED IN GOVERNMENT IN THE 2020 ELECTION, I BET YOU ONE DAY, ONE DAY THE SAME PEOPLE WILL CALL GHANAIAN *StUUUPID* PEOPLE JUST AS THEY ARE CURRENTLY DOING TO THE NDC AND JOHN MAHAMA. THE NPP GOVERNMENT THINKS EVERYONE IN GHANA HAVE NO SENSE OR BRAINS TO MAKE ANY SOUND JUDGEMENT HENCE THEIR CONTINUOUS DECEIT F OF THE MASSES.EXCUSE MY LANGUANGE, BUT EVEN A ***barred word*** AT A POINT IN TIME WILL REALISE THAT HE IS BEING DECEIVED
What kind of logic is Bawumia forcing down our throats. You wants to obscure the facts using every form of statistical data to ones again lie. How can nominal debt stock rise from 122 billion in 2016 to 222 billion in 2019 (just three years) and the debt stock as a percentage to GDP increasing from 56 percent to 62.25 percent in 2019 and yet in your analysis 2019 is better than 2016. Where did you learn your statistics? The plain truth is that whether you compare the nominal figures or our debts as a percentage of GDP, 2016 figures are better than 2019 figures. simplicita Bawumia, respect us small wai.......
I thought he was going to proffer alternatives. The problem with NDC is that, instead of offering alternative policies, they rather refer to NPP achievements as lies.
The HIV prevalence rate in Ghana is much higher than the government has been stating. This is a national emergency. It could cripple the economy, if the government does not give higher priority to the issue. According to one lady, all her friends have it. Akufo-Addo must act now. The HIV budget is too low
They wish the evidence was not provided. Now they are just licking their lips, with no intelligent counter arguments.
This baumia guy is a long time liar, and an old school economist. He keep showing Ghanaians figures and graphs that he scribbles on paper to just put a dust in Ghanaians eyes. It's only those they (npp) brainwashed will listen to this bullshit.
