More revelations are popping up after the Auditor-General, Daniel Domelevo released the list of beneficiaries of GETFund scholarship meant for ‘brilliant but needy’ students in the country.
The latest is a confession by NDC General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia who has admitted that his son was funded by the scheme for his tertiary education outside the country.
Speaking on Adom FM Wednesday, Mr Asiedu Nketia explained that at the time of application, he had retired from legislator duties and as a result could not foot the bills of his son’s education; putting him under the ‘needy’ category.
“When I left Parliament some years back and had retired, I applied for a scholarship for my son from GETFund. My son was awarded the scholarship to study Risk Management outside the country because institutions of higher learning in Ghana were not offering that course.”
He, however, added that his son is currently on a different scholarship funded by the Chinese government studying his PhD. “But my son is now done studying and has secured another scholarship by the Chinese government and is currently in China reading his PhD.”
There has been a public outcry following the release of a performance audit report showing the beneficiaries of GETFund scholarship and the expenditure allocations.
The presence of incumbent high-ranking government officials and ministers of state has incurred the wrath of many Ghanaians, particularly on social media as it shows a clear violation of the GETFund Act of parties entitled to the offers.
Minister of State in Charge of Procurement Sarah Adwoa Safo, was given $12,800 in allowances with $17,004 in tuition fees to study at the Harvard Kennedy School.
Minister for Education, Mathew Opoku Prempeh was also cited in the report to have benefitted from the scholarships, having received $12,800 for living expenses and $11,200 as tuition fees to study a National and International Security in Harvard University.

So you see the wisdom in making free SHS available to everyone who qualifies to go to secondary school? Something that's meant for the poor end up going to the rich (you can talk about cocoa scholarship as well). I think it's time we stopped playing politics with free SHS and support it.
From what our politicians are doing there will be serious attacks on them by the youth in future if these things does not end .
After graduating from Adisco with my A'Levels, I stayed home for 4 years cutting grasses and doing menial jobs to raise money to pay for school to then IPS. Adwoa Sarfo, you were one person I admired, but I am highly disappointed in you, if indeed this is true. Oh Mother Ghana, God will always be there for the poor and the greedy will be rewarded accordingly. The cry of the poor reaches out to Almighty God and the greedy will have their life cut short. Asiedu Nketiah, Prempeh and all who deprived those who needed these funds will pay with your life. God has heard the cry of the poor and nothing good will come out of your greediness. See your life cut short and that of your love ones.
Now you see why they will do anything to get to power even if it means shedding innocent blood? Why do you think people go to the extent of selling properties worth millions of cedis in order to use the proceeds to fund political campaigns? The reward for being in power or being in political office is "hefty and mind blowing". I am sad however to say that unfortunately most of these reward systems are grounded in illegitimate, corrupt and catastrophic plundering of public resources. How rewarding is this so called democratic regime to the citizenry in general. Government-by-the few-for a few to detriment of the poor masses. It makes no***barred word*** to me. Only God and God fearing leaders (not self-confessed and churches/mosques occupiers unfaithful – the Apostle Paul calls them having the form of godliness but denying the power thereof: 2 Tim 3:5) can save mother Ghana. The greed and selfishness is too much. Ultimately these wicked privileged ruling class will perish with their ill-gotten fortunes. I weep for Ghana. We are in the fix. As for the military when given the chance they did NOTHING different. I prefer this system any time any day to the corruption- ridden dictatorship. At least under this system, we may be hungry and poor but our fundamental human rights are not easily trampled upon.
so you see how these politicians esp NDC NPP shamelessly take these very opportunities they are to help make available for the poor and vulnerable in society. they very poor people who queued all day to vote for them. you see after stealing money meant for state projects etc, after all the previllages and monetary compensations that come with their positions still see what they do to the poor. after that you kill yourselves in the name of ndc npp. God will visit you all and your generations with His anger cos His children that you deprive these things of cry to Him in the middle of the night. ***barred word*** and pathetic politicians
Pls Ghanaians let us vote against this politicians and bring no one and see their reaction. Eii when i was ss1 at Aduman i used to walk from kodie to Aduman b coss no money for boarding fees from Abeys Park to Kejetia then trotro to Kodie to Aduman Junction eii saa oooh Pls let play our cards well i m not criticize just i m belong to some party even my blood colours shown npp colour but i m speaking the truth. OK we shall look at it again.
the sad bit about Asiedu Nketia's son is when he had the scholarship studying @ heriot watt university in edinburgh he was virtually living in ghana and attending lectures week on week from Ghana. He would take a flight from Gh every week and just come for lectures and return after lectures to ghana on a business class. Such was the abuse of political power and i know what i am talking about. He was very very boastful at that time about it
i cry for ghana, scholarship meant for the poor grab by ministers. please let sell ghana and share the proceed i do not care if white man rule me, shame unto you
Asiedu Nketiah's son is pursing his Ph.D in China. Yet this same Asiedu Nketiah will gather the veranda boys, mostly without future, for unnecessary demonstration. How many demonstration has he invited his son to partake? Politicians are gre4edy bastards. When in life has NAPO, Adwoa Sarfo and them them have been classified as needy? We need another revolution to clear the mess.
how do you expect ppl to have confidence in state institutions? This is corruption and greed! So what is going to happen? they should be made to repay the money to the fund
