Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Kweku Baako Jnr., has condemned some arguments made by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in relation to COVID-19 and measures put in place by the current administration to halt the spread of the pandemic, describing them "pollution of the environment".
Some communicators of the NDC have accused President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo of 'stealing' ideas from former President John Mahama on COVID-19.
President Akufo-Addo during his 5th address to the nation on measures being taken by his government in battling with the deadly COVID-19 announced a number of reliefs for nurses, the vulnerable in society and Ghanaians in general.
Some of these freebies include no water bills for three months, free transportation for health workers and so on.
But the NDC believes some of them were ideas from their flagbearer; hence he should be given the credit.
Reacting to this on Peace FM's morning show 'Kokrokoo', Kweku Baako said such claims are 'unsustainable' and that it only 'pollutes the environment'.
“I’m hearing that the President’s address and proposals were stolen from Mahama. When did Mahama speak? If I’m not mistaken, Mahama spoke on April 4. They claim they President is executing prescriptions by President Mahama”.
“Has anyone read Ofori-Atta’s presentation to Parliament on March 11 and 30. He told Parliament that measures are being put in place to close a possible financial gap in the 2020 Budget that could result from the coronavirus”.
“On March 30 before Mahama spoke, he (Ofori-Atta) came out with a document captioned “Covid Alleviation Programme”. Paragraph 38 of Ofori-Atta’s speech to Parliament reads “Mr Speaker, that is why to mitigate the impact of coronavirus on businesses and households and ensure that economic activities are sustained while minimizing job losses. The Ministry of Finance will immediately release an amount of GHC1million upon approval by Parliament”.
“The Ministry is proposing to use an equivalent of $219m from the Stabilization Fund. The cap will focus on areas that will provide maximum result on alleviating the impact of the virus pandemic with a focus on protecting job losses, livelihoods, supporting small businesses and ensuring the programme is efficiently and sustainably implemented.
“Targeted business and households will include those in the health sector, education sector, hospitality industry, small and medium enterprises and households hit by the coronavirus. The specific details of the cap will be fashioned out shortly."
"So, if you check the sequence, the point that someone has stolen someone’s idea is unsustainable . . . every Ghanaian including the former President have the right to make suggestions but to suggest that the sitting president had no ideas as to how to go about this matter and so deliberately went to pick what the former President said belittles the . . . it pollutes the environment," he indicated.

Which novel ideas did the NDC proposed and couldn't put all these into action when they had access to the state funds? Even in opposition they are super incompetent. Anyway Togolese President even stole NDC's proposal on electricity. Concert party indeed!
Herh Kweku or whatever you call yourself.....All the things you claimed the finance minister read were general without specific stimulus to alleviate the plight of the vulnerable and businesses. Anyone could write such meaningless english to pretend as though they were doing something. Look Mahama categorically and specifically mentioned free water, free electricity, tax exemptions and others. But argument is not about who stole whose idea. I was expecting you as a matured and self acclaimed intellectual not to muddy the waters by heightening tension in the political space in this crucial time. Your comments indicate you allegiance. But don't think we are fooools.....you make this comments and will turn around under the guides of social commentary criticize other for politicizing the situation we find ourselves. This your unrepentant and hypocritical disposition is stink.
What did NDC do to help the dumsor which plunged the country to darkness for almost 5 years apart from creating loooooting and sharing by signing more IPPs to make Ghanaians pay more for electricity as the then Presedent Mahama said "if Ghanaians wants light we should be ready to pay more" . A government came and managed to cancel some of the IPP and renogotiate the existing ones. They now sit there thinking Ghanaians have short memories to do polotics on every issue at the expense of Ghanaian lives.
The ndc are telling us that they can think of a simple and perhaps basic relief like subsidized electricity bills but a government that actually reduced electricity bills in the early days of its administration for the 1st time in this country could not come up with that relief without reference to the ndc. The ndc must really be desperate for recognition in these times. They have become invincible and struggling to be relevant.
I suppose you are an NDC member. Else I would be very surprised you follow their efforts to do ***barred word*** politicization of everything in times when people are suffering and dying. Bro let’s support government to help us deal with this unseen enemy and stop the unnecessary noise. Thanks
Who listens to Kwaku Baako these days. One who has sold the last bit of his dignity and integrity for a bowl of morsel. He has become a laughing stock tomorrow all those who watch him on Tv or listen to him on radio. His submissions are nothing more than recaps and repetitions of old and archaic arguments he has been propounding since time immemorial. Kwaku we're tired of it. Aren't you worn out? It is time you said goodbye.
it is shameful for the NDC to be engaging in active politics when we have a pandemic to solve. NDC should engage in an effective education program to help the citizenry understand what they need to do in these crises. John Mahama can provide buckets and soaps to many areas in the country whilst educating them on the need to stay indoors.this would be positive and it would also make him visible but i criticizing needlessly is not helpful at all. change strategy John.
NDC should stop politicizing the pandemic , we really appreciate what the government doing and they deserve another 4year term.Ghana first
Now we can understand why current governments are not so eager to complete previous governments' projects. We like to score cheap political points. It makes our submissions so infantile.
kwaku whay woryy your head to go through all this explanation? we all know these ndc people and the blocck headed members from top to bottom. The lord is exposing them big time and it will continue till they turn to ashes. that is whenGhana will be in its proper place
