Former President Jerry John Rawlings and his wife Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings have congratulated the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, on the occasion of his 70th birthday.
In a congratulatory message, Mr and Mrs Rawlings lauded the Asantehene for serving as a unique ambassador for Ghana and Africa and projecting the country on the international stage.
According to them, Otumfuo Osei Tutu should be celebrated for “exhibiting dexterity as a true diplomat and symbol of the rich culture of Ghana”.
Also, the former first couple praised the Asantehene for his exemplary works of promoting peace throughout his life and kingship.
“You have shown great discernment and understanding of the dynamics of national and global politics and served as a peacemaker where politicians have struggled to tread.”
“For the past 21 years that you have been on the throne as Asantehene you have endeared yourself not only to the Ashanti Kingdom but also to the entire country with your wisdom, leadership and calm demeanour,” the former first couple said.

Nii Noi, we have been singing praises on non performing leaders in Africa for too long, and look at the result! A leader who does not fight against this filthy surroundings and the poverty the people are expirencing is not worth being lycked. Why do we continue to clap for leaders who do nothing? If he's doing something then it will take more than 2000 years for us to see the benefit. Let replace some of these guys with more sensitive guys. You can't be comfortable and send millions to UK, leave your people poor.
After sending millions of dollars to banks in UK? Shammmme on you.
Long live the great king. For the love of your country, people used to tag you as a supporter of ndc. Less I forget they used to say that you support Accra hearts of oak. They said these to portray you as an Ashanti king who doesn't behave and support what most Ashantis do. Most Ghanaians respect and like your attitude towards humanity despite all the grace and wealth that come with your cherished position.
