Popular Legal Practitioner, Dr. Maurice Ampaw says he’s utterly shocked that the Minority on the Appointment Committee of Parliament voted against Supreme Court nominee, Justice Clement Honyenuga’s approval even after he being honest to the committee.
The Minority MPs have opposed the appointment of the Appeals Court Judge’s nomination as Justice of the Supreme Court.
They voted against him at the Appointment Committee level after accusing him of political bias after he as a Paramount Chief of Nyabo Traditional Area endorsed President Akufo Addo’s second term bid when he visited his area in February 2020.
But the Chief appearing before Parliament’s Appointment Committee during his vetting, Justice Clement Honyenuga apologized for endorsing President Akufo Addo.
However, the Minority was not moved his apology as the group voted against his approval but the Majority overruled them by 10 to 7 votes.
Commenting on the issue on Kasapa FM Tuesday, Dr. Maurice Ampaw stated that a great disservice will be done to Ghana is such a fine, honest, morally upright, and smart Judge is not approved.
“The Judge is very honest, but sadly Ghanaians don’t like someone who’s honest. So they saw his honesty to be his weakness. The Minority was rather expecting him to come and deny or mount a defence of what he’s reported to have said or perhaps say that the voice was doctored as most politicians always say and getaway.
“I look at it from that angle that since he was honest and apologized that should have been enough for the Minority to vote for his approval after the vetting process. We’ve had MPs who have appeared before Appointment Committee for vetting as Ministers and when they were questioned on some of their earlier statement they said they had no evidence and that it was mere political talk.”

What is wrong with this ***barred word*** opportunist. The appointment you need from the President will not come for a lot are waiting for theirs so shut your dirty mouth up. You want him to be rush through the vetting easily as you thought. We have better things to think of than you. Go and continue your fail case with Captain Asamoah. You are not ashamed of yourself for not being successful in that small case.
Why is it shocking? If vetting is supposed to just approve people then what is the purpose of it. Those insulting should be ashamed of themselves. This attitude of people who think everything in this country should be done on tribal or political basis is why no institution independent or working in Ghana. Maurice Ampaw should know better if he indeed a lawyer unless he is really not a lawyer as he claims. What is happening in Ghana is really disgusting and has to stop if we really want progress .
From my perspective, I think the minority in parliament voted against Justice Clement Honyenuga due to two reasons which are :- (1) They do not fully understand the English language or they understand but just decided to play mischief. The operative word in what the Judge/Chief was supposed to have said is the word "MAY". In English this does not constitute an endorsement of Nana Addo but rather being diplomatic in his role as a chief. (2) Anyone following what is going on in Ghana will conclude that the second term of a Nana Addo government will invest a lot of energy in prosecuting a substantial number of NDC members including John Mahama which could weaken the chances of the NDC further in 2024 and hopefully pave way for Bawumiah to do the final hatchet job from 2025 and beyond. The NDC as a party at present is like a prison facing death row therefore their level of desperate acts will know no bounds.
And they said their party is for the voltarians. Look at what they are doing to their own. Voltarians! wake up!!
