Major Osahene Boakye Gyan (rtd) is warning of impending doom should the Electoral Commission connive with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to rig the upcoming December polls.
The former military officer accused the EC of gradually leading the country into a civil war with its bull-headedness, particularly regarding the decision to compile a new voters register.
Cooked Figures
Speaking on Okay FM’s Ade Akye Abia Programme, Osahene Boakye Gyan claimed the EC, having a desire to rig the 2020 elections with the tacit assistance of the ruling NPP, is hell-bent on having a new register.
"This party (NPP) won power with the biggest electoral margin; so what has gone wrong?...this morning, i overheard an NPP activist on radio claiming if elections are held today, Nana Addo will be re-elected with some one million, three hundred thousand votes difference. See, the NPP has cooked up the figures already, they are simply looking for the means to legitimize their rigging by undertaking a registration exercise (through the EC)....," he alleged.
If They Want Civil War, They Will Get It!
The fomer military capo strongly held that the country can go to the polls this year without resort to putting together a new register as was done in 2016.
Sounding a note of caution, he pointed out that most electoral disputes in Africa have resulted in civil wars and Ghana is not immune to it, and warned that "should the EC continue to toe the line of their paymasters, it will certainly spell doom for this country."
" . . it is political motivation that led to the dismissal of Madam Jean Mensah as the EC Chairperson by the current administration. They want to beef up the numbers so they can win simply because they don't have confidence in their winning numbers, otherwise they won't tamper with it...But more importantly...post-independence Africa, all crises and civil wars have been on the back of disputed electoral results. What they are doing now, they are driving us into a civil war and if they want it, they will get it," he screamed.
Plans Far Advanced For NVR
In a related developmrnt, the EC says it will observe all the necessary safety measures to curb the spread of Coronavirus when it begins compiling a new register of voters.
“All stakeholders are hereby reminded that plans are far advanced for the compilation of a new voter register with a new voter management system for the upcoming 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections,” the EC said in a statement on Monday, 11 May 2020 signed by Acting Public Affairs Director Sylvia Annor.
The Commission said it is “sensitive to the current state of affairs due to the COVID-19 pandemic and will abide by the necessary precautions and safety protocols in the execution of its mandate when it deems it appropriate to begin the compilation of the register”.
The exercise had been scheduled to start in April but has been put on ice indefinitely following the outbreak of Coronavirus in Ghana.
The EC's statement was in response to a comment passed by Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu, who castigated the Chair as running the election management body like an NGO.

The Boakye Gyan had never been a force in Ghanaian politics. He was a coup d’état puppet and was paid-off and settled on a scholarship to study abroad. So cheap he was! No wonder, he can only relate to coup d’états. And such a person supervised the execution of Gen. Akwasi Afrifa. Fire will burn him!
With all due respect, i think Boakye Gyan still thinks we live in the late 70s to the early 80s when coup detat was been supported by the majority illiterates and the lawless few. Majority of Ghanaians now understand the important's of democracy and the benefits that comes with the rule of law.
***barred word*** Boakye_Djan!!
I just can't believe this civil war in Ghana because of politicians? And who are they going to recruit to fight? Their relatives, friends or party members? We are just sick and tired of these people. Some of us are just tired if this NPP and NDC politics in Ghana.
True, true: propaganda makes a fine gentleman, a MORON. In 2016, affiliates of NPP called for a new voters' register; but the EC and the NDC said no. But there was no thought of civil war; but the NDC tragically terribly the elections. Now, the EC wants to compile a new voters' register and these clowns of a political tragedy calling for civil war? Just because the NDC has never won any clean election since 1992, they fear a similar fate will be visited on them? That will not happen Not surprising. Does Boakye Gyan think he has the strength to shoot a gun? We need the new voters' register. Just as the NDC has set up a parallel COVID 19 team, they should not register but use the old register on voting day. What a vexacious bunch of nincompoops?
You shall definitely REAP WHAT YOU SOW BOAKYE GYAN!!!....do u think we 've forgotten all the good Generals you and the party you support killed ?!@##....I DARE U TO START A CIVIL WAR.....U shall feel the full wrath of the people of this country if you and that your ***barred word*** blood drinking ,visionless and babies with sharp teeth party who have the most ***barred word*** party chairman in the whole world like ASIEDU NKETIA (woman clothes wearer to international functions) insulting their founder that he's an OLD DOG WITH NO TEETH SO SHOULD SIT BACK AND ***barred word*** CUZ HIS TIME IS PAST""...U GUYS THINK WE FORGOT THE THINGS U DID IN THE PAST AND HOW U CONTINUE TO KILL AND PLUNDER THE RESOURCES OF GHANA... EG. ,the killing of Atta mills , all vice presidents of NDC are dead ,and all the nkomfem, and aeroplane business your party wasted our money on ,there was no one calling for civil war ,but when a legitimate exercise by law is being carried out ,you are crying out for civil war, by the way you should be careful what u wish for because you shall get it and it wouldn't be nice for you and your people and party .....total annihilation for all the Evil deeds you and your party have done to mother Ghana....God bless the EC and AKUFFO ADDO...AMEN.
Why would this expired military man speak in such a way. My humble appeal to you is that, start the Civil War at your family house first. I will personally organize press men to capture the event as its unfolds. Poor you, old soldier
Is the EC going to register Ghanaians or only NPP followers? Please, let us talk like responsible Ghanaians. Compiling new register for Ghana has nothing to do with civil war. Please, just encourage your party faithfuls to go out to register when registration opens and also on election day, be vigilant at the pooling station, remember elections are won at the pooling station according to the supreme court. The new register will be compiled in without any problem in sha Allah. Your threat and that of your ***barred word*** will not scare the EC. Majority of Ghanaians are calling for new register so what is the big deal. NDC is not the only political party in Ghana. May Allah give Ms. Jean Mensah and her commissioners wisdom and direction to compile new voters register for mother Ghana for 2020 elections and beyond.
Boakye Gyan, if you know how to launch a civil war why didn't you do it in 1984 when your brother was executed by the erstwhile PNDC junta leader, Ex. President Rawlings? If you have been re-admitted into the country, you brag, and you will smell rat, you and that your Mahama. At age 76, you have to be sensible and talk like a mature person. Mere compilation of new voter register should not create any problem. You and Mahama will be the first casualty, should any war erupts in Ghana.
I thought with your age you will talk sense. You will be the first person to die. What has compilation of a new voters register by a legitimate state institution like the EC got to do with civil war. Wise up.
