General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has strongly indicated that the opposition party is willing to fight tooth and nail against the Electoral Commission (EC's) quest to compile a new register for the 2020 general elections on December 7.
According to the NDC Chief Scribe, his party is prepared to resist any unconstitutional means by the electoral body which will not promote a free and fair election and possibly disenfranchise Ghanaians in the upcoming general elections.
Speaking on Okay FM’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show, General Mosquito as affectionately called "we are all part of the framers of the constitution and have placed the EC in charge of our elections in order to maintain the country’s democracy so that whoever becomes president is the only one duly elected by Ghanaians. Therefore if in the course of your duty we feel that you are not doing what Ghanaians are paying you to do, every Ghanaian has the right to say it as it is”.
Reiterating the determination of the opposition party to ensure that the right thing is done, Johnson Asiedu Nketia affirmed the NDC's decision to prevent the EC from conducting a new registration exercise unless it is in line with the constitution.
“We are telling the EC emphatically that they will not be allowed to begin the process of compiling a voter register. Let not the EC, NPP or any other body think that we are going to withdraw from the elections; it won’t happen and they shouldn’t also think that they can do things contrary to the 1992 constitution to scheme and cook up things to favour Akufo-Addo or any other person in the upcoming elections. That too, will not happen.
“We will insist on a free and fair elections, and then in the event of a registration exercise, it will be based on the respect of everybody’s human and civic rights, while ensuring an even playing field for all . . . and we will participate and win as NDC,” he assured.
Mr Asiedu Nketiah was emphatic that the NDC will continue to publicly voice out the misdeeds of the EC as the electoral body appears not willing to heed to the advice of the NDC at Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meetings.
“All the things we are talking about in public, we have already discussed with them at the IPAC meeting but they refused to listen and so if they won’t listen, should we say that since they have become block-headed, we should refrain from speaking out? We will continue to fight for the right things to be done. We are not saying that we are going to show EC something that the NDC had secretly planned to do," he fumed.

START BRINGING YOUR CHILDREN ABROAD AND YOUR WIFE, WHO YOU BORROWED THAT WINTER SUITE FROM TO DISGRACE THE WHOLE NATION. THEY WILL START THE FIGHT AND ALL OF US WILL FOLLOW. ITS ONLY OK FM THAT YOU HEAR THESE NON SEEENSE. THE HOST IS NOT KNOWLEDGEABLE ON ANY ISSUE HE PUT UP FOR DISCUSSION.
GO AHEAD MAKE OUR DAY, MR MACHO-MAN, AND YOU WILL MEET MEN OF YOUR CALIBER .
From the way Mr Asiedu Nkatiah is talking, I can deduce that he does not wish the NDC well. He is portraying the NDC as a violent party, not a law abiding one. With this behaviour, they are planning to be in opposition for many years.
The kind of language these NDC people are using these days is very offensive. "No one can dare compile a register" What do you mean by that? Does Ghana belong to you? You in the minority think you can threaten the majority of the population to do what you want? And even when people tow your line and things eventually go wrong, you will say you only said it, you did not force them to do it since you are not in power. I think we have tolerated this n0ne$ense for too long. The EC is going ahead, let's see what you can do.
We can say on authority that the NDC knows they are losing 2020 elections and worse still Mahama their leader has brought serious shame on them as an international ***barred word***, Ford car, Airbus, inflated contracts etc,. they know that if npp under Nana Addo finishes two terms their chances of coming back to power again will be lost. Hence they have decided not to understand anything from the EC. If they are not closely watched they can visit any evil upon Ghana to compensate their failure.
Since 1992, the constitutionality or otherwise of the EC's decisions has always been fought, contested and won or lost in the Supreme Court with evidence not blood. Even a whole election and its results were determined in the same court and the NPP and its then Presidential Candidate accepted the verdict. No blood was shed. Is NDC General Secretary saying that his party is entitled to be heard and the registration exercise halted on the basis of threats of mayhem and bloodshed at all cost. Government should prepare for this mega show down to demonstrate that we are all bound by the same rules and means of seeking redress for our grievances. We live or die to see.
Masa you talk too much and you are the course of NDC and Ghanaians problems. You don't have anything to offer us except to train the innocent youth under you to behave rudely and arrogantly like you. Was is how you and NDC behaved towards Charlotte Osei? Because NDC chose Charlotte Osei, you and your party became the bodyguards for her and were defending her and telling Ghanaians that the EC is independent so we should allow them to do their work. Now you are in opposition and you didn't choose Madam Jean Mensah so everything about the EC is evil. What can of childish logic is this? If the EC is acting unconstitutional then what are you and NDC waiting for? Go to court and stop holding press conferences which could be conducive grounds for spread of Covid-19
